I submited my passport on march 26 in Guatemala

Hi,

I was asked to submit my passport to the Guatemala office, so I did on march 17. It has been 5 weeks now, and the cic web only says: Application received on march 7, medical exams received. That's all. how long do I have to wait if they already have my passport? I supossed that if they ask for it is because they have review all the documents and that everything is ok. So, if anyone has any previous experience with this, what's next? We hire a law firm and they say that we can expect some news on August, but if that is true, I don't understand why they asked for my passport.

I am a little desperate, I will aprecciate any comment.

Your lawyer's calculation for a timeframe is probably about right, although I've seen cases where a visa is issued in a shorter timeframe.

When did you mail your application in? If yours is a routine case, which would be if you weren't requested additional documents, your entire process should last between 8 to 12 months. If it has been longer than that you'd better call the V.O. for information.

I do not understand why they asked for my passport if they still are investigating my application. I belive they cannot hold my passport for 3-4 months. Do they?

I see two possibilities for the passport request: 1) Background checks; 2) in preparation for issuing PR. In any case, that would be routine procedures. I sent my passport as well in march and nothing yet there are few ppl that sent there passports 6 months ago and nothing u just have to be patient and wait am desperate as well cuz they asked for everything so am guessing its a visa issuance but nothing yet still waiting hopefully something will come up for both

alex and psalinas, i'm sure that your applications are being processed normally. The timeframe seems to be the normal one for your VO: approx. 18 months.

I'm sure you'll hear from the CIC in the next few weeks. Hang in there and keep posting your progress here for others to compare.

Hello,

I haven't been asked to submit any additional documents, as we sent everything with the applications. When they sent an email asking me tu submit the passport, they only check the passport and some payment on the checklist they have, so I assume everything else is ok.

I saw someone else that got their PR 1 month after the passport was submited, from april 2011 to may 2011.

ya I know the normal time is 18 months but ya when u send in ur passport u either get ur visa right away or u have to wait every case is different unfortuanetly others have to wait longer then others and of cousre I will keep everyone posted hopefully we will get our passports soon

Yes I am keeping my fingers crossed for the best and for me well my husband they asked for his passport and ARC authorazation to return to canada I dont know if this is slowing down my process or what but hopefully something good will happen and fast

Wow, psalinasr, you got your passport request quickly, I hope my husbands request is that fast. I hope you get your visa soon. Did you get notified when they started processing or just the passport request? They told us they started processing my husbands case on may 17th, I hope it's qnlot faster than the 18 months on the CIC website.

ya I know the guy got his pr in 5 months I dont remember his name lol but ya hopefully we will get our or our spouses pr soon and yes difinetly we need good vibes here
