CA is the most prestigious accounting designation, if you have an ambition to work for the big 4 accounting firm as a partner, or be a VP or CEO, CFO, etc..then CA is the way to go. Having said that CGA is good too, CGA is easier to do and geared towards students from technical schools, CA is what people from University tend to do.
In Western Canada there are 2 ways to do CA, you either do CASB (work full time, while completing assignments, there are 6 modules, about 8 weeks long with weekly assignments, then an exam for each module. Module 6 is just a 2 week UFE prep exam, after passing all 6 modules you write the UFE(the final exam). If you pass this and have all your hours, ie audit, tax from an authorized firm etc..then you get your CA.
I went the CA route, so I don't know too much about CGA.
Finally, there is another option, you may complete a Masters in Accounting from the University of Sask and then write the UFE, you still have to meet the work requirements from an authorized firm to get your CA.

Both paths will prepare you for the UFE, and you must complete one of them to get your CA.
