Hi, adsingh.

I believe you can practice both CGA and CA as long as you have a valid study permit. However, I am not 100% sure, you should contact you provincial CA institute directly and ask them.

In order to get you CA you have to work for an authorized firm, and I believe you can as long as you have a work permit. It is at the discretion of the firm.

aal ... did you study canadian chartered accountancy course .. ??

Yes I did my CA in Alberta.

In order to do that first I got my bachelors in accounting from the University of Calgary, then I did my CA through CASB (CA School of Business), while working full time at an accounting firm. It took almost 3 years to finish CASB, plus 4 years for University.

In order to do your CA you must have an offer from an authorized accounting firm, otherwise you can't enroll in CASB.

However please note that I am a Canadian citizen (I am here because I had questions about sponsoring my wife), so I'm not an expert on the immigration requirements.

nice to meet someone from the same field.. i am also a chartered accountant. now i wish to upgrade myself in canada, will do so via cga or ca route..

thanks for the reply aal1984.
