I lost my job being with closed work permit which is expired 2 days back

I worked in Canada till yesterday with closed work permit. My work permit got expired on 13 Aug 2024 and I lost job on 16 Aug while my extension is in process(extension was submitted with IRCC on June 12). I wanted to know if I could still continue to stay here and change my work permit status to open and then try for job? Or am I left out with no option than leaving a country?
Can someone help to know what all are the choices that I can be tried to stay here or get my Visa status changed.

How are you eligible for an open work permit? Most likely not so need a new LMIA to apply for closed work permit.

You'll need to provide the details of your situation such as when your work permit expires or expired, if you have a PR application in progress, etc.

I have a PR application submitted in August 2024 applied through NBPNP did not receive AOR. I’m the primary applicant and my spouse has full time job in open work permit.

I returned to India. But before traveled back to India I did check with one immigration lawyers. I had left with no option other than applying for temporary visitor visa that is of no use rather being stay in Canada. This visa is not eligible to work. My case little different tha yours because I was single and nobody was dependent on me. You could apply for open work permit if your visa has a validity and you are terminated by your employer. I would better ask you to contact immigration lawyer for better option. Hope this helps you.

Also my closed work permit expires in 2026 Feb. and currently terminated from my job. What are the option to get a new employment or change to new work permit while I wait for PR.

@Vaishnavi123- You must definitely inform IRCC about change in job status if your PR application is in progress.
For new work permit, you need to find new LMIA based job and apply for new WP.
