Hey,

I am confused. Why am I looking at two different document checklists for spousal sponsorship? Which one do I follow?

This is ridiculous, I can't post links! How can I show you which document checklists I'm referring to if no links are allowed?!?!?

Can someone direct me then to the correct document checklist?

This is the title of the one I was originally following from CIC's site (applying outland, husband is American living in USA, I'm Canadian living in Canada):

Family Class
Sponsorship of a
spouse, common-law
partner, conjugal
partner or dependent
child living outside
Canada
Table of Contents
Appendix A - Document Checklist -
Immigrant
Appendix B - Photo Specifications
United States of America, Bermuda,
Puerto Rico and
Saint Pierre and Miquelon

You need to have 10 posts I believe.

That said, that one is correct, however you may also require a country specific guide.

Hi

Posting the actual form numbers is much more useful than titles.

There is a sponsor checklist, IMM5491, and a country specific checklist, which for Americans, is IMM3910.

BOTH checklists are required.

Try again. Now that you have 10 posts you should be able to post links.

From your post, it looks like you are doing an outland application. If so, there are 3 components to the application, each with a checklist. The sponsor, applicant, and country specific checklists are all available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp.

If instead you were looking for the forms for inland applications, take a look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp

The Outland Document Checklist is different from the Inland Document Checklist.

Hi all,

I am applying outland, I'm sponsoring my American husband living in USA to Canada.

I'm aware of only two document checklists:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3910e.pdf

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.pdf

Is there an additional checklist I need?

Some items do not apply to me, for instance item 5 on IMM5491 (I don't have a co-signer). Do I write N/A in the box?

Thanks so much everyone.

What is meant by co-signer in IMM 5491? What does co-signer mean?

There are only 2 checklists.

Yes, put N/A for things that don't apply.

As stated in the guide, it isn't possible to have co-signer when sponsoring a spouse.

What about this checklist then? Is this checklist http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5443E.pdf sufficient for both the applicant and the sponsor, if the applicant fills in the country specific checklist as well?

IMM5443 is for inland applications. If you look at the heading, it says "In Canada". You should not use that one if you are applying outland.

I'm sorry guys, but what is a co-signer?

My understanding is that there are no financial requirements when sponsoring a spouse, so why is a checklist made for spousal sponsorship mentioning a co-signer?

Thanks all for your help, it's deeply appreciated. I'd be lost without this fantastic forum.

Aha, never mind, just found this thread that cleared it up for me: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spouse-sponsorship-and-co-signer-t16137.0.html

Thanks again! ;D

Okay, I'm on page 2 on IMM 1344, and on question 3 under "SPONSOR ELIGIBILITY ASSESSMENT", it asks, "Are you sponsoring a member of the family class or a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class?"

I'm confused about the "in Canada" part. Is this referring to inland? I want to apply outland, am I looking at the wrong form?

This has to be the correct form, I got it from the checklist IMM 5491. I'm so confused!

Because it says, "if you answer no to any questions from 1-4, you are not eligible to be a sponsor. You should NOT submit your application."
