Hello everybody!

What happened? Well, I am late with filing my tax papers. With all the hassle and difficulty I have never gotten around doing it. The story started when I applied and got a Working Holiday Visa for 2010. I entered Canada in december 2010.

I stayed in Vancouver for a month. After that I went to the Yukon where I stayed there the rest of the year. (2011) I had three sources of income:

1 As a laborer working for an oil transportation company. (1 month)
2 As a soil sampler for mining exploration. (4 months)
3 I got injured at that last job, so I received compensation from the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board.

The two jobs netted me quite a bit of money in only a few months, the rest of the year I didn't work. I was told I was going to get a big tax return for that. However when I returned to Holland in 2012, in all the hassle I never filed my taxes.

I have started to look into it now, but I am way over my head. You can imagine it's quite a bit different from the Dutch Taxing system. I know nobody here who can help. So I am left with only one option: Ask for help here. ;D In all the hassle, I have no papers left from that period.

My questions to get me started are these: What papers do I need? What are the names of the papers? Do I need anything else to start filing my tax papers?

Very much appreciated, Martijn.

Start by obtaining T4s from all of the companies covering all of the years you worked there. The T4 is an official tax document that states income earned and tax deducted for that income.

Allright! So I'll have to get a T4 from those two companies. That's good advice!

And what about the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board. Do I ask for a T4 there as well?

Both the T4's and the T5007 are in. I am complete for the next step.

I need to download the T1 form, print it and file the tax returns.

But there is one important question:

I stayed in Canada in 2011 for 365 days. (I applied for an extension of my WHV but didn't get it)
I officially rented a room.
I got myself a Wildernis First Aid certificate.
I worked in two jobs.
I had a Yukon Health Insurance. (I even received compensation)
I had a Canadian Bank account.

Does this make me a resident, a non-resident or a deemed non-resident?

Thank you sincerely! :D

I tried to find the answer myself. But it is still confusing me. The more I read the less clear it was. Could you guys help?

Am I a resident, a non-resident, or a deemed non-resident?

Yours, Martijn.

I would say you were a resident for tax purposes therefore file as a resident but attach a letter explaining your situation just incase it isnt clear to CRA
