Hello

We live in Dubai/UAE, My husband wants to apply for a TRV for Canada as we are planing to visit Canada next summer to visit his sister (who lives there with her family) and for tourism purpose too.
my questions are :

1- i know my husband can apply for me as a family member, but can he also apply for my MOTHER (his mother in-law ) in the same application as another family member ? (my mom lives with us and always travels with us on our vacations and she helps taking care of our little boy and my husband will be the one to pay all her trip expenses )

i'm so confused because in CIC definition i get the following :

Family Member
An applicant's closest relatives, in the context of an application to CIC. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.

2- can we apply for a multiple entry TRV as we are planing to travel to canada again next christmas ? is there any restrictions on that ?

please help me, i tried to contact canadian embassy in Abu dhabi with no success .
Thank you a lot in advance

1- To my knowledge each member of the family should fill out his/her application.

2- of course you can apply for multiple entry

Good Luck

According to your definition your mother would need to process her own application and prove her own compelling reasons to return home. Read all you can on forum regarding refusals and make your first applications strong one. Search in the top white box on right aide of main page. You must show strong ties to home. On your first application a single entry visa may be the smartest choice. Having family in Camada creates ties to Canada that you have to overcome with evidence of good employment, savings, property, and social ties. Do you live in your country of citizenship. Good luck.

Hello Bonitaellada, Thank you so much for your answer .
when my husband wanted to apply online he had to answer several questions before getting the checklist, one of these questions was the following :

Do you want to submit an application for a family member?

and he answered Yes

then the next question was :

If you are submitting applications for more than one family member, please start with your spouse or common-law partner (if it applies).

so he started filling my information as i'm his wife, and when he finished he had another question :

Do you want to submit an application for another family member?

and this is where we don't know what to do should he put yes and fill my mother's information? because we are traveling as a group ?

Thank you again for your help

Hello pippin,

we are from Syria and we live in Dubai since almost 3 years now, my husband works here, and can provide a salary certificate, we own properties in Dubai, a car, we will provide good bank account statement, and our son goes to school in Dubai, that's all what we can provide.
but my mom can't provide anything, she lives with us and we are supporting her financially, so i'm not sure how can i apply for her in a single application!!
she traveled with us to USA, Europe, Turkey, and many different countries, and we want her to come with us to Canada :(

Thank you so much for your answer

I am not an expert but I do not think you can as mother in law is not defined as a family member. Having her previous travel history is a plus. Perhaps you can write a thorough cover letter spelling out her strong tie to your family and in turn your compelling reasons to return to Dubai with her after the holiday. I also think it is in her favour that the sister you will visit is not her daughter so that will not increase HER ties to Canada as it would for your husband and his family group. It is all so complicated. Are you leaving ANY family members in Dubai ? I am thinking how the VO might look at it if your entire family is asking to come? If some close family will be staying home then include that fact in cover letter as further tie to home. Does this help?

What about a letter from your husband's work granting the leave and date expected back to work. Perhaps letter from son's school regarding return to school date? I suspect he is quite young by your post, so that may make little impact, but worth a try.

Definitely make a complete itinerary including where you will stay and preferred airline itinerary. I don't think buying return tickets makes any difference, but you must have enough money to show that you can pay for all trip expenses and there is still money left for normal living expenses when you get home. With tickets, anyone needing a visa would likely get refundable tickets so they really prove nothing. It is proving your ties that counts.

Ranka, no need to buy the tickets nor hotel booking. It is my understanding that you will be traveling to Canada next summer. It is too early to make such plans.

Concentrate on making a good case for the visa first.

when I was submitting my application for a visa to Canada, I asked the officer what do you mean by "family". The answer was:family is your spouse and children. I asked again: so it's not my parents or siblings? The answer was, unfortunately, NO.

Bonitaellada that was exactly my question, i wanted to know if my husband can consider my mom as a family member, and based on what you and Pippin said he obviously can't :( thank you so much for this clear answer .
