Hello bsrk68,

We've almost done with the visa process ( awaiting passports! ) and will land come June.
Its just that we are not sure about which city top finalise to make our new home..

My husband is Financial Manager ( CPA, MBA ) here in Dubai, but wud be more than happy to start as accountant in Canada.
Ottawa seems a fine and peaceful place, but we dont know french.. Is knowledge of french necessary to land up a job in Ottawa?

You might want to read up one of my earlier threads and decide:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/which-city-should-i-land-in-canada-t60295.0.html;msg544285#msg544285

For accountants, Toronto is a good place to start. Ottawa offers mostly Federal Government jobs.

Best Wishes

Thank you so much bsrk68!

The link was very informative! You and some other seniors on this forum are proving to be guiding stars for us potential immigrants.
Also, I have another query. I heard there is a lot of potetntial in Calgary for accounting jobs as well. But the air pressure causes headaches/migraines there or so i have heard. And will Toronto be better than Calgary for accountant jobs, as its like financial capital of Canada? I am really sorry for eating your head out! :-[

To be very honest, this is out of the scope of my knowledge...sorry about that. You can try starting a thread with this topic and invite some inputs.

Hey no problems..and you are NOT eating my head out at all. ;D Alberta's economy was built on Oil Sands. Depending on your level of beginning, I feel Toronto might provide more footings, if not better. Then life is only progressive from there.

Meadowvale and Heartland areas are great in Mississauga. They are progressive, newer and closer to highways. Dundas/Hwy 10 or Mimico are somewhat congested, but have good schools. Dwelling around the Square One area are quite nice too, with good schools nearby.

Most SAP institutes have a marketing tag called "Placement Assistance". Please do not believe in all of those gimmicks. There's no need to seek admission in "Bigger" names....they are only expensive. I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for a SAP FICO training.....and Yes there are plenty available. At the end of the day, you and only you will have to practice in the system which will make you better, which you can do from home easily.

I would stay away from all such agencies who charge a placement fee (unless they are providing some kind of Skills-Enhancement training). Employment agencies in Canada have a mandate to not charge anything to the job-seeker, since they get paid by the employer. Moreover, like I said before, doing any kind of job-search prior to landing here is an exercise in futility. Jobs are fewer due to season and other factors. You do not have a SIN yet. Employers usually are in no mood to "Wait" for a prospective immigrant. You have to be here in person...period !! The positions are usually for immediate start. Service Canada (HRSDC) has a plethora of resources to help you get placed too. In each field, there are specialized agencies for placement. Please refrain from sending money to any agency. BTW, looks like this is an Immigration Consultant's Website, not a specialized placement agency.
