I recently got my PR and was in Canada for one month. After which I got married. Can I sponsor my wife while I am outside Canada for the Family Class?

I have a confusion about this since some consultants are saying I can and on the website, it clearly mentions that I need to be residing in Canada to be eligible to be a Sponsor.

Is it possible for her to apply for Express Entry, while I, her husband already has the PR? Is spousal sponsorship the only route?

If she meets the requirement, she could apply for Express Entry.
for sponsorship you have to live inside Canada and It would be suspicious because you got married just after landing.
I guess you don't have your PR Card yet

Why would it be suspicious?
I received my PR Card last week.

Suspicious might be a strong word to use but you may need to convince IRCC why you did not get married before you landed and added your wife then to complete your landing rather than a month after you landed. Basically is a question of showing it is a genuine relationship plus anyway until you are settled in Canada you cannot sponsor your wife from outside Canada and if that is what it says on the IRCC site versus a consultant then believe only IRCC.

Whether you have a PR card or not is irrelevant.

Thank you for your reply. Is it possible for her to apply for Express Entry though?

If she qualifies why not

Doesn’t it create a chance for rejection cause she is married to a PR? Wouldn’t they say to apply for the family class instead?

1. Return to Canada, find a job, place to live, etc.
2. Apply to sponsor her to Canada.
Check www.cic.gc.ca for the details.

ExpressEntry is a waste of time/money for you, since she can easily be sponsored to Canada bcaz she is your wife(family class application).
Best to start working on gathering the paperwork for the sponsorship application.

EE isn't a waste of time if they want to be together. There is little chance that the spouse will be approved for a TRV and OP must be living in Canada to sponsor, so they could expect to spend the entire sponsorship process apart. However, if the spouse qualifies for EE, OP can live with her outside of Canada until her app is processed.

Yes, exactly. We don't want to live apart. Hence, wanted to clarify this. For instance, while her Express Entry is in process I decide to enter Canada does that effect her EE. Or do I need to stay out until her EE gets done.

Thank you everyone.

You can do whatever you want. It won't have any effect on her app.
