we landed in Canada in July 2009 me, my 2 kids 15, 17 and my husband.
We got our residency cards , in July 2009.
my husband stayed with us for 17 days only, during which we could not get a permanent home to rent as they all wanted references which we did not have . So we bought a condo and got a mortgage . My husband works abroad to support us and I worked 3 different jobs until June 2010. I never applied for anything except the compulsory health services and i pay monthly fees although up to this day i do not have a doctor and my kids never been to one here in Canada . In march 2010 i paid an accountant a handsome amount of money for him to do my taxes , i told him to please tell me all that he needs so i can provide it and all he only asked for was my t4s'?
Then in July 2010 i receive a letter from CRA Canada that i wont receive HST/GST up yo April 2011 for they don't know how much i made in 2009 before coming to Canada , where i was already retired and they don't know anything about my spouse .
So I sent a letter showing them my Husband status and his sin number and giving my 2009 international income, but they didn't ask about my husband international income? I still have not heard from them .
The standards of living here is very high and expensive and things have been very difficult although my husband sends us money but that barely covers the mortgage , strata and staples. i feel that I have deprived my kids of the simplest pleasures in life just to give them good education here and a stable country .
I Do Not Want To beat the system or abuse the system like the responses i have read in other threads all I am asking here for is for some one to educate me about what i don't know
like:
1- first time home buyer is there anything like tax refund? we bought in July 2009?
2-my husband sends us monthly support money do we have to pay tax on it ?
3 child care assistance ? how do i i apply now ? i guess now for 1 kid since my other turned 18 in the summer and in university now
4- Do I have to file taxes for the kid attending university although he is not working and we pay his tuition and all
5- does my husband have to pay Canada tax although he is not residing here but holder of a PR card?
6- where can i go in Vancouver BC to seek professional help with taxes and tax returns and other things that i dont know exist
7- When are employers supposed to give out the T4 . and will they still send it to me although i don't work there no more ?
8-I am not planning to work anymore and just take care of my kids . So will i still have to file taxes?
9-I was under the belief that I have to work and do volunteer work in order to prove daily that I am physically present in Canada , doesn't the PR card and the passport stamps show that? As I am the main applicant and I don't want scary surprises after 3 years when I apply for my citizenship
I appreciate you response
please forgive me if my letter is long
Regards
