Husband with Application in Kingston Jamaica

Hello All!

Well... here's what I have the energy to post right now...

I am sponsoring my husband who is from Jamaica.
We sent the application in February 2008 (estimate).
I was approved as a sponsor after a month and then the file was forwarded to Kingston...
AOR letter approximately April, I think.
They started processing the application on June 16, 2008.
(That's a long time inbetween!?)
They requested more information (originals of birth certif and marriage certif.)
We then found out that the bring forward date for his application was on or about October 21, 2008!
Just the other day we find out that they haven't looked at the file yet! Yep --- It's December 4 2008!...
Now we are told that their self-imposed (by Immigration)is January 15 -- the 10 month mark? My husbands medical is only valid until January 15th....

Does anyone else have a similar situation or have any advice to offer?

Thanks.

I am not in a similar situation but I suggest to get the medical exams done before it expires, so the Office won't have to ask for that, delaying even more your process... It will have to be done anyways (unless they fasten up), so I'd do that asap.

Hi,

I sponsored my husband from Jamaica, but inside of Canada (he was here). We DID have to deal with the High Commission in Kingston with regards to his sons, though (dependant children need to pass a medical before principal applicant is approved).

A couple things-
-Kingston High Commission is VERY busy, and notoriously slow.
-You are not outside the normal processing times for Kingston because 80% of apps are processed in 11 months. Anyway, so I would HIGHLY recommend is going to your member of parliament, and speak to the immigration advocate/expert. Give the file number, information on your husband and so on, they might be able to send an email to the HC in Kingston. This is what we did with out MP, and after 2 emails from the MP, we had the medical results completed, and my husband became a PR about a month later.

(In our case, Kingston received the app with notification they needed to get medicals from the boys in Jan 2008. They did not take action until April... boys did medical right away in April and Kingston didn't process the results until they were basically forced by our MP to do so in October... 10 months passed!!)

So, here's the processing times chart for Kingston:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp

Good luck!

I am having EXACTLY the same problem as you. I am from the Bahamas and my husband is canadian. We sent in our application in January of 2008 to Kingston. Didn't get the acknowledgment of receipt until JUNE. At the same time we also received a request for more evidence documenting our relationship, which i sent in immediately hoping to hurry things up. We received NO further communication since then and it is now January, one year since we sent in the application. My husband appealed to his MP and they found out that we have been issued a letter requiring me to get new medicals and police clearances all because THEY took too long. The timelines say 4-11 months. Why should I have to suffer AND wait longer because they are incapable of keeping to their timelines.
So angry and feeling your pain.

I'm not going through quite the exact same thing either but I do completely understand your frustration. My husband is Cuban... I was just about to send in our file to CIC but found out that his police clearance has expired (for CIC). On the doucument is specfically says that's it's valid for 6 months yet CIC says it cannot be older than 3 months old. So I called my husband to obtain a new one, which in Cuba, is time consuming and lengthy.

We're obliging because we don't have a choice but it's frustrating... the offices over-seas (or here for that matter) make it as complicated and difficult as they can. I understand they're doing their job but here was are tax paying citizens, going the honest route trying to bring our spouses here so we can begin our lives and it's nothing but one issue after another.

A friend of mine, sent in paperwork to sponsor her husband from abroad and CIC lost her package... all they tell her is that she has to start all over again!! Ridiculous... they lose her package and she got no help whatsoever from anyone there.

The process is draining but it's what we do to have our loved ones with us. I just cannot wait to be done with all this paperwork!

Lonely Canadian wifey...

The application is always forwarded quickly to the visa office (Kingston, in this case) because all CPC Mississauga does is make sure that application is complete, and that you are an eligible sponsor. Now that wait starts... Kingston will take some time to contact your husband, and process the application to completion (when he's called to submit his passport, collect his visa, fly here and land as a Permanent Resident). You are most likely going to wait for 6-9 months at a minimum- Kingston currently processes 80% of spousal applications they receive in 11 months. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... you just need to be super patient. When your husband gets a letter from CHC, make sure he responds quickly and keeps copies of everything (medical, criminal checks etc).

I'm sorry you are so upset... yes, the waiting honestly drives many people crazy. I'm sure your application is great, and it *might* help in processing a little more quickly (if you have sent everything they requested).

Kingston CHC is very busy, and very slow. As I mentioned, you need to be really patient and tell your husband to be pro-active when he receives correspondence from then.

If you fall outside the normal processing times, you could ask your local Member of Parliament to intervene for you, but this should only happen once they have passed normal processing times. Also, you can find out about what's going on with the app by checking online-
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/?app=ecas&lang=en
You can use your client ID (given to you on the letter from CPC Miss), the file number, or your husband's client ID and information.

Just comfort yourself that you've done all you can to make the application process run smoothly.

Apparently, the most successful way to get through to them is via fax.

I, personally, sent email inquiries and online inquiries and NEVER got a response back.

Yes, you need Use of Rep form and file number, name, date of birth of applicant.

But trust me, there's no use contacting them unless you are outside of normal processing times. It would be awesome if you could prove me wrong. I doubt they've even opened your file in Kingston- they just received it, right?
