Hi Guys!

So my Husband received PPR last week and he is planning on visiting me in October (he already bought his ticket 1-2 months ago).

My question is can he bring some of his belongings (it's all clothes) with him now to Canada and leave it here with me??

That would be smarter for him since he can bring 2 luggages with him on this trip and then 2 more on his next trip. That way, he wouldn't have to ship ALL of his belongings to Canada or pay for 4 luggages when he offically lands in Canada.

Will Customs give him problems? Will he need to fill out a b4 form even though he is not technically landing?

Thanks :)

He can't start moving his belongings until he is landing (or after landing).

I would hold off bringing 2 suitcases on this trip since it could complicate his entry. Even though he has received PPR - he doesn't have his visa in hand and at this point he is still a tourist and has to behave as one.

He doesn't qualify to fill out a B4 form as a tourist. So yes - customs / immigration could give him problems. Again, I would hold off moving until he's legally allowed to do so.

Thanks for your reply.

It sucks to know that he can't just take some of his belongings with him now and then bring the rest of his stuff when he officially lands.

That will be more luggage/shipping fees for him at the end. Oh well

Hello Spoken05, how long is your husband visiting for? If he is staying for several weeks or over a month it is normal for visitors to bring 2 suitcases. My friend brings 2 suitcases if we go away for a weekend! If your husband is visiting for only a week, then you may want to think about it. To scylla's point; however, he simply needs to clarify that he is visiting this trip and landing next trip. FYI my husband always packs more clothes than me when travelling. Congrats on your PPR!!! Blessings.

I agree with the previous post in asking 'how long is his visit here for?', and also with 'scylla' except that I would say 2 suitcases is okay but definitely no more for the exact same reasons. One other thing, at what airport would he land at? If it's Toronto for example, you clear customs BEFORE you pick up your checked luggage (2 cases would not be in sight yet). You must still exit past one more CBSA from the luggage corral but I have rarely seen anyone pulled aside from there.

I would definitely tell him to bring two if he coming for more than 2 weeks .My husband is going to do the same and he don't even have his visa yet. I take 2 suitcases every time i travel for more than a week .

He will be visiting for 2 weeks exactly. He will be stopping in Chicago then to Ottawa directly (not sure if he will have his luggages when he sees a CBSA officer with his two luggages).

I really hope he can bring 2 luggages so that he can just leave 1 here then bring 2 more when he offically lands.
