Hi, if you are in Canada now, just send all the proof of what you have. The officer is correct, the onus is on you BUT if you are back in Canada and you can explain that you had to leave for a valid reason, then it would be fine. It is very important for them that persons who apply to sponsor loved ones actually reside (or intend to reside) in Canada, as that is the whole purpose of sponsorship. Kindly explain to the visa officer why you had to leave, but also show that you are now back in Canada. Remember, as a PR and not citizen, you have to be in Canada when sponsoring.
Thank you so much for your advise...

Howzit! Thanks so much for this thread. We are compiling our application, my hubby is Canadian and I am RSA. Your thread is the closest that I have been able to find a reference point to. Thank you for all the info, just wanna ask did you have to submit your medicals and when? And did you also have to get your immediate family (mom & dad etc) to do so as well? This part is the part that we have been umming and arhing over in the complete guide. Thanks once again for sharing and huge celebrations that you got your PR!!

Hi! Glad I could help :) Are both of you in South Africa?

Okay so regarding medicals - you will get a medical request after your application has been transferred to the visa office in Pretoria, if you are also applying family class. So you can wait for that.

Only your dependents (i.e. children going over with you) also need their medicals done. Family members are only defined as those traveling with you. Therefore, if your husband only applies to sponsor you, you will be the only one requiring a medical test. I did not provide medicals for my parents or sister etc.

From another post: "The only people eligible to be sponsored by your husband, and so to be listed on IMM0008, are you and any of your "dependent" children who are not already Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Only those people included on IMM0008 are required to undergo medical and criminal examination, and submit photos.

Your parents and siblings need to be listed on IMM5406 (Additional Family Info), because they may be eligible to be sponsored by you in the future, after you become a permanent resident. They do not have to undergo examination now."

Thanks so much for that. All my family are scattered around the world so to get them to do medicals would be a lot of admin.
Yeah we are both in South Africa and are doing Family Class Application outbound. My husband goes to Canada for 4 months of the year to work and then comes back to RSA. Unfortunately I cannot go with him for those 4 months, hence the reason we are applying for PR for Canada. Being apart that long is not cool. Really appreciate all the info. Where about are you heading to in Canada?

That is so good for you guys, even with my PR I am struggling a lot to find employment. It is all about who you know these days. Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding the sponsorship application. We are landing in Toronto, but we are not sure where we are going to settle. I was hoping to find employment before arriving, as that would guide us where to live, but no such luck unfortunately. You guys?

One last question once you received COPR, what was the timeframe to enter Canada? Is it 2 or 3 months?

I think it is difficult whatever country you are in to find work. However there are a few under demand jobs if you are in the right industry. We will be in a rural town in British Columbia, but with the most beautiful mountain ranges. If you want beauty, British Columbia is the place to be. Toronto reminded me a lot of Europe. I would definitely choose BC any day, but then again all depends where the jobs are and what you do for work. I wish you all the best.

Thanks! Yes I would also love to end up in BC or Alberta for the scenery, all depends on where the jobs are as you have mentioned. Regarding your COPR, it will be valid for exactly 12 months since the date your medicals were passed. For example, I passed my medicals in March, so my visa expires March 2020.

Hey,

For your photos, did you have to avoid selfies?
Hi, we are not really selfie people so we did not have any. That being said, I dont think it matters. But about half of our photos were with friends and family, to show that others support our relationship as well.

Hello! I was wondering for your headers for each page on your supporting documents, did you write the headers directly on the supporting documents, or just have pages attached between them? Did you number the pages?

Throughout the supporting documents, we also had headers for each page in case a page got lost some how. The header included both the sponsor and applicant names and birth dates, as well as the type of supporting document (i.e Supporting document for Sponsor: 2. Proof that Sponsor will live in Canada)

Hi, my supporting documents were usually screenshots pasted onto a Word document, so the Word document had a header with the sponsor's name and DOB, applicant's name and DOB, the section i.e sponsor's "supporting documents: relationship proof". For normal letters from fiends and families, we made a heading page before all the letters and a page explaining that we included X number of letters from friends and that the letters are on the following pages. We did number our entire application yes, but we numbered the application with a pen after printing it out.

Hi, just want to ask how many screenshots did you put per page?

We were only allowed to provide 10 pages of communications, so I just added screenshots (about 3) per page so that you can at least see what is going on inside the screenshot.

I see, I actually pasted 5-8 screenshots since I still need to submit some letters as part of the 10 pages.
