Hello everybody,
I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is Greek.
We are married 10 years now.
I would like to apply to sponsor my husband for permanent residency.
We are planning to move and work in Canada (almost at the end of this year), I read a lot of threads regarding this subject and everybody has different/same story.
My questions are the following:

1. What we need to proceed with the application (paper work)?
2. Can he leave and work in Canada without process of sponsorship finished?
3. As far I can understand he will need a work permit, how we can done this?
4. What would be the difference in timelines if i apply inside or outside Canada?

Thank you in advanced :)

1. Check the CIC website for Inland/Outland apps for what documents you will need. It's a big application, better to look.

2. If you go Inland application, he can live in Canada with you, but cannot work until you get 1st stage approval and an Open Work Permit. You will need to apply for the Open Work Permit with the inland application for that to happen. As it stands, there's an 11 month wait for 1st stage. If you go Outland, he can enter and leave Canada but will be on a visitor's visa which he will need to maintain to stay in Canada. HE won't be able to work in Canada under an Outland application and would need to seek work separately, and via a work permit to do so. However, if you wanted, you could apply Outland right now and live and work in Greece (Assuming you are both doing that now) while the application is being processed, and then come to Canada once he is granted PR. Outland is also much quicker.

3. There are various ways to get a work permit. But most require a LMO (Labor Market Opinion) which would need to show that the employer actually needs your husband for that job, or that other Canadians could not do the job. (if my wording is off, please correct me, it's late). It would be much easier to do an Outland while you live and work in Greece, then search for employment when you are in Canada.

4. Processing times vary and are subject to change. But Inland takes approx. 20 months in total, 11 months for stage 1, 8 months for stage 2. Inland is much shorter and most get PR in less than 12 months.

Good luck!

Hiya

I do hope you can speak Greek too! Smiley

I have sponsored my wife (she is from Skopia)I am from Thessaloniki (Canadian) and our VO is Vienna. You must be dealing with Rome! Our apps have been in Vienna since March and seems a long wait still till they get back to us.

Ok. First things first

Please feel free to ask anything as through the years I have gained quite a lot of experience regarding the apps for spousal sponsorship
