1. The LOA is issued by the RTO of your DL processing city.
2. The IDP/IDL is issued by 'another' authorized body.
3. U'd require the LOA for getting the 'waiver' of wait pd. for Canadian DL.
4. The IDP/IDL permits u to drive a rented car for 2-3 months in a 'partnered' foreign nation [2 months in Ontario].

Yes, they both r diff things.

Thanks Qorax! So, what will then I ask from the LTO (Land Transportation Office) here in the Philippines? Is it the LOA? My goal is to obtain a Canadian Drivers License.

What is the widely used car transmission in Canada? Automatic or Manual? Percentage? Thanks!

It'd be interesting to know why do u ask that?
I'm in the driving lesson mode right now (actually, on and off for months now). I just got my driver's license last June 2011. I'm planning to buy my own first ever car (used car only - no budget) and I'm contemplating if to get a manual or an automatic tranny car (maybe a preparation for Canada - just being optimistic ;D )? Thanks in advance Qorax! ;)

A search at autotrader.ca reveals that if you input Toronto +25km and the keyword "automatic", you get 19,967 hits and if you use the keyword "manual" you get 2,676 hits.

As for which car to get, it is trickier to drive a manual shift. It is very easy to switch over to an automatic but not so easy the other way around.

Thanks Qorax and also to Leon! :D

I enrolled in a driving school sometime ago learning mainly manual shift driving. I already driven/practiced on automatic cars but not that thorough. I guess I'll be looking for an automatic tranny car then. Salamat and Muchos Gracias! ;D

Guys, I don't know how to drive in an automatic transmission. I haven't tried one either. I only drive manual. Can I still acquire a Canadian drivers license?

Yes, you can still get a Canadian drivers license. Automatic transmission is very easy. There is no clutch, just gas and brakes. The shift is P for Park, D for drive, R for reverse and N for neutral. However, if you don't want to drive one, just get a manual shift car.
