Answer to your question: No he didn't apply for Canadian citizenship. He only used his US citizenship. He applied for Canadian citizenship after Emily was born. Also, let's assume that he could legally work for Canadian government in abroad mission since they require his specialized skill.thecoolguysam said:The question for the hypothetical question: If Adam applies to work for Canadian Mission abroad, did he apply after getting his canadian citizenship certificate and canadian passport or using his US Citizenship paperwork like US passport?
But the child might be able to enter USA by Country X passport and then travel to Canada. This way, how would Country X going to know the child has Canadian citizenship?screech339 said:One issue I like to bring up is the eTA travel issue. As of September 30, all foreign nationals must apply for and hold valid electronic travel authorization (eTA). If OP managed to get Country X to give citizenship to child without knowing about Canadian citizenship, the child cannot travel to Canada as Canadians are not eligible to get eTA. This would mean the child has no choice but to use Canadian Passport to enter Canada. Country X is going to know that child has Canadian Citizenship the moment the child leaves Country X with Canadian Passport. Prior to eTA mandate, a dual citizen would be able to leave country with native passport and enter Canada with Canadian Passport. Now with eTA in place, the child won't be able to do this. Country X is going to know the child has another citizenship, the moment the child leaves and realized they have been duped by OP's actions.
This is going off topic. Let's stick to main question that pertains to the point in time when child becomes Canadian citizen. Is it at birth or when he claims citizenship. Country X is irrelevant to my original question. Thanks.steaky said:But the child might be able to enter USA by Country X passport and then travel to Canada. The answer is: Since one of the parents is a Canadian citizen, the child will be Canadian by decent but must prove his identity before he can get Canadian citizenship certificate and passport.tracker_01 said:This is going off topic. OK, understood. I appreciate your opinion. Thanks.steaky said:The answer is: Since one of the parents is a Canadian citizen, the child will be Canadian by decent but must prove his identity before he can get Canadian citizenship certificate and passport.
If you want to pertain, then renounce your Canadian citizenship before child is born. Period.
Btw, couldn't your new-born child get a visa so that he can stay with you in Country X? Sorry to repeat that country / off topic again!tracker_01 said:OK, understood. I appreciate your opinion. Thanks.
I will answer via private message because I would like this thread to concentrate on Canadian law aspect, rather than Country X aspect. Thanks.steaky said:Btw, couldn't your child get a visa so that he can stay with you in Country X? Sorry to repeat that country / off topic again!
I think what you're confusing for "discussion" is a few people entertaining themselves on a wildly bizarre scenario from someone with an active imagination. The irony is that OP's original scenario is so absurd it doesn't even rise to the level of decent entertainment. It's beneath laughing.ajithpl said:This seems to be the hottest topic in the forum as it is now 8 pages of discussion in just 2 days!
Correct answer: Adam didn't apply for citizenship because he was already a citizen. He merely applied for PROOF of citizenship.tracker_01 said:Answer to your question: No he didn't apply for Canadian citizenship. He only used his US citizenship. So, is it your opinion that Emily is Canadian citizen?canuck_in_uk said:Correct answer: Adam didn't apply for citizenship because he was already a citizen. He merely applied for PROOF of citizenship.
Irrelevant. Nothing to do with your situation.tracker_01 said:So, it your opinion, that Emily is Canadian citizen?
It is relevant with my situation, because it determines at what point Adam became citizen which is what I am trying to establish with my situation.canuck_in_uk said:Irrelevant. Nothing to do with your situation.
I honestly don't know why you are still posting. As you have been repeatedly told, your child will be Canadian. You can choose to believe it or not. Either way, you aren't going to get anything new from here.
It is not that OP doesn't believe his child will be Canadian. He doesn't want his child to have Canadian citizenship so child can get Country X citizenship for life. That is the motivating factor. OP wants to deceive Country X about child's Canadian citizenship so child can get Country X citizenship when it's law doesn't permit it.canuck_in_uk said:Irrelevant. Adam was canadian at birth. End of story. That is what we are all telling you.tracker_01 said:It is relevant with my situation, because it determines at what point Adam became citizen which is what I am trying to establish with my situation.
