All information to process your PR application is available in this forum, you can search and ask around, there are many knowledgeable and helpful people in this forum.

Having said that, it's your personal choice to have a consultant or not, but you can save a lot of money if you have basic research skills.

What I would have wanted from my consultant was to be up to date with any provincial nomination programs that I am qualified for.

But I realized that my consultant handled too many clients that prevented them from providing the personal touch I was looking for.

I would agree with xingee on what he/she said. It is easier to do things all by yourself. In case you have any sort of questions you can ask the members here or call CIC (they are very helpful). Consultants do cost a lot of money

In my personal opinion, the best litmus test while going for a consultant is to check their understanding about any specific topic related to Canada immigration (not generic topics like, Will I be eligible? Would I need to get my educational credentials assessed? How much funds should I show as POF? etc). And how do you know that the consultant is not beating around the bush? You need to do your own research and understand the specifics or the answer that you are looking for. If the consultant can answer your questions satisfactorily, then you know you have the right person for the job. Ideally, they should be able to answer your questions as they handle many cases, if they are not able to, then you know what to do.

Other questions which you can ask are
1. How many cases have been handled by the consultant and how many have got PR?
2. How much time did it take for them to get PR?
3. If possible, try to get their contact and talk to them to know their experience with the consultant. I doubt whether they would be willing to share these details, but give it a try. Ask for client testimonials and do some research on your own.
4. Ask specifically how many cases have been rejected and also the reasons for the same.
5. Ask for the termination clause, what would happen to your EE profile if the contract is terminated, especially access to EE profile, WES account etc.

Please note that once you make a payment, you are just another file which they need to clear, unless you follow up with them on regular basis and ask the right questions. You can ask the right questions only if you know the process well.

IMPORTANT: If you are going ahead with a consultant, please do not leave everything on them, ensure that you check everything twice before submitting, as sometimes consultants can overlook things which may cost you your PR.

If I were you, I will do it on my own than go for an agent/consultant, unless my case is complicated.

All the best!

After EE, you don't need any consultant. System is simple. Spending money on consultant is waste of money.

I would agree with Stanlee on that matter. If you have decided to go ahead with a consultant, always look at the content before you submit anything. I had a horrible experience when applying for a study permit for my wife. We went through an immigration consultant and he messed up a lot of information and we had to go through all the documents before submission.
