Yeah it can be tough when you're having to learn a new language, but wow, your spouse is one lucky person, because I can see how dedicated you are to living in Quebec by learning the language. There are some people who come to Canada in general, but don't want to learn English. Wish you best of luck QuebecOkie

Thanks. :) The immigration process was not fun, especially with him gone to two different courses, so he was away for 6 months of our first year here, BUT...there's one positive. I'm absolutely CERTAIN I want nothing more than to be with my husband. If I'd been harbouring any secret doubts, they would have surfaced at some point, for sure! ;D

Now...to find a job and save a bit and hopefully replace my car on my OWN and build some credit, like a real grown up.

Steerpike: It's easy to open a bank account but getting a credit card is more complicated when you don't have a SIN. (Depending on the bank)

Ahh ok. If you are a student then get a student card. They give them out like candy. If not, have your spouse co-sign on your personal creditcard (rather than shared account). If you want a no-fee card, it can difficult, but a fee one they will likely give it to you. I started out with $500 credit limit and now its like $15000. If you keep paying it off they just keep giving you more and more credit, its crazy.

Thank you! My bank had already sent me a letter saying I was qualified for a credit card and I'm gonna get one as soon as I come back. :)

i just read something on the settlement forum that Scotia bank has programs for "newcomers". i am unclear is that means new customers or recently landed immigrants. might be worth checking out for people shopping for banks.
