Please help me as I am at a loss regarding the coming of my husband. He plans to book a direct flight from Casablanca to Montreal with Royal Air Maroc on January 18. Then, he would take another flight with Air Canada from Montreal to Vancouver. HOW MUCH TIME does it need at the Montreal airport? His plane from Casa would land in Montreal at 17:00. Do you think he has enough time to catch the second plane at 20:00 ? Thank you so much!

Hey Habibti,

Congrats on getting the PR completed, great to hear!

the landing procedure itself takes about 5 to 10 min at the maximum, so I think it should be fine, if there is no delay etc. I have not travelled through Montreal before, so I don't know the airport at all, but the landing itself is really quick - few questions, looking at the PR to make sure all is in order, and that's it. he will also have to clear customs as it will be his first canadian port of entry, so it depends on how much things he is bringing with him, if he has a B4 form etc.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thank you so much! We have to take into consideration it is winter, there might be delays. If he lands at 17:00, it does not mean he is out of the plane immediately. He has to wait his turn to get out of the plane. Then, he has to walk a few hallways and then wait for his luggage. Also, he will need to check-in his luggage with another airline. Plus, he will have to see an Immigration Canada officer. Do you think it might take 2 hours in total?

Nightmare nightmare this immigration process! My husband left Casablanca and he landed in Montreal where he had to take another flight for Vancouver. There were 3 hours between the two flights. The plane from Casa was 53 minutes late, he had to wait 20 minutes to get his luggage and he waited TWO HOURS for his turn with an Immigration officer. Now he is stuck at the Montreal airport and I had to pay an additional $400 so he can take the next plane at 5:30 am. He will land in Vancouver at 10:00 am. We were so impatient to be together as soon as possible so we can spend lots of time together before I return to work on Monday morning :(

I hope my post will help someone in the future. Plan MORE than 3 hours between the two flights :( Anything could happen!

sorry to hear that, it seems that it was very unlucky ( or very busy as Montreal airport) ! I hope he makes it safely to Vancouver tomorrow, it must be a bit of a stress for him as well - but CONGRATS to him on becoming a PR - now it's done! :)

Thank you Sweden! Yes, it was very busy. My mother was impatient to meet him so she took the bus from Quebec city to Montreal. She went many times to that airport and she said it was extremely busy as she has never seen before. She could not believe the huge crowds. Can't wait to pick him up tomorrow morning. I have to be patient one more night :)

well it's nice that your mother went to see him - at least he was not left on his own in Montreal airport... one more day, and then - he can stay with you for the rest of your life! :)

My husband will be landing in Montreal as well. Besides the 2 hours waiting for the immigration officer, how much time was spent talking to the immigration officer?

Yap! As I was reading the OP, and thinking of my reply, and then realizing far enough down (it's now history). The problem is not how long the conversation is, it's how long you have to WAIT to have that conversation. As I've posted before . . . "Welcome to Canada. Hurry up and WAIT."

My husband spent 10 minutes with the Immigration officer. For some unknown reason, they had to stay in the plane a long time and it took a long time also to get his luggage. I recommend at least 4 to 5 hours between the two flights.

3-5 hours minimum. Defend how many people are in immigration section. 5pm is little rush. Will take 1-1.5 h pass custom and immigration. 2hrs minimum finish landing process.

1.5 h is not enough do ot worry. I know air canada montreal to toronto have flight each hour if you miss flight always you can go next flight. I saw alaways flight overbokked so passengers wait for next one. 10:30 or 11:30 pm last flight if you kiss then next day early morning. Good luck.
