How much personal information is enough

Hello. My husband and I have been corresponding by gchat and skype. I've collected all the gchat messages and it would be nearly 300 pages long. Should I include them anyways in the application package. Plus some of the stuff is very intimate. Can I black out parts of it out?

Also I want to include a cover letter outlining how we met and to reassure the immigration officer I have the ability to support my husband. I was wondering how much do I put on paper about the complexities of how we met? Should I keep it short? Our story is a bit of a soap opera.

One last question. My husband came over to be in Vietnam with me. He was in the country for 5 months and 28 day, so a couple days short of 6 months in which he would need to obtain a criminal record check for Vietnam. He worked under the table and he has just the entry stamp and visa in his passport to prove he was in Vietnam. Would CIC ask for a criminal record check regardless? He won't be able to obtain it as we are no longer there and getting documentation after the fact would be nearly impossible.

My apologies for the litany of questions. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi

Select one or two convos per month and send that. Don't send conversations you black out. I had intimate things in my chats but I just really didn't care so I just sent it anyways.

Questions on the forms will ask the PA for an explanation of how you met and relationship developed. You can write a separate statement if you wish.

Assuming your husband is the PA, he will likely be asked for a Vietnam PCC. If it's truly actually impossible and not just inconvenient, include proof that you tried and are unable to obtain it.

Re: obtaining a criminal record check from Vietnam

Hello. The problems is we left Vietnam Sept. 2014, not realizing we'd need to obtain a criminal record check for him. Is there an affidavit I can obtain from an embassy? Technically he was there just under the 6 month mark, so would an immigration officer insist on a criminal record check?

Since it is only 2 days less than 6 months it's highly likely they will ask for it.

It takes about a month to get police certificate Ly Luat Tu Phap #2. Quicker if you know how to grease fingers. Make sure it's #2 and not #1.

Also when you are staying in Vietnam you have to fill out a form with your local police letting them know where you are staying and for how long.

I was in Vietnam in 2014 stayed for almost 15 straight months. Back than I had the Visa Exemption Certificate which required to me to extend it every 3 months. Every 3 months I would fill out a form and submit it at the local police. They'd stamp it if it's ok. Than take that form down to immigration and custom office to extend my stay another 3 months. They'd stamp inside my Canadian passport an extension for another 3 months and show I'd paid 10 USD.

Than I'd take the passport with the 3 months extension to local police. They'd record in their books my extension stay and sign off on the forms.

Don't know if you have to fill those forms out too but if you did you can provide that in addition to the Ly Luat Tu Phap #2 as proof you stayed in Vietnam almost 6 months.

Re: criminal record certificate from Vietnam

Unfortunately he didn't fill out the forms, or should say my landlord didn't. Only my name is down on the local precinct's books.

We are starting our teaching program soon and there is no way we can make a trip to Vietnam as much as we'd like to.

There must be a way to get around this. After Vietnam we worked in China and we managed to get the Chinese criminal record check. Plus my husband is getting his from the UK. Would that not offer some reassurance that he isn't a criminal?

Explain why you cannot get the police check, and provide proof that you tried to do it but could not. CIC will accept things like this in some cases.

Just throwing ideas out.

Try e-mailing the Vietnam embassy in the country you're currently in on obtaining a police certificate. They may be able to point you somewhere if they can't do it themselves.

Only your husband can submit the police certificate #2 form. I tried submitting the form for my wife and they wouldn't allow it.
