In theory you're required to take the minimum funds for one person ~$12,000. This has been deemed to be the bare minimum someone would need to survive for a year without working. Bare, bare minimum.

Take enough to get you a rental deposit ~$1000
First months rent ~$800
Food ~$500
Expenses ~$500
