Hello,

I am from Bangladesh and I will be applying for a student visa based on the MASc or MEng offer letter I get from the universities I applied to. How much living expense do I have to show in my bank account? According to the CIC website:

"Tuition plus $10,000 for a 12-month period (or $833 per month)"

However, if my course is a 2 year/ 24- month course, do I have to show double of this amount?

Do I also have to show them money for my ticket to and from Canada?

You donot need to show for two years..Show only for one year .... Show ur bank balance and parents balance ..if there is regular source of incmoe , then show it also..

Its better to show tuition fee+ 10000+ 2-3000 (for travel expense)

Thanks for the response Himal :)

Are you sure that they won't expect to see 2 years of living cost? It just becomes a lot easier on me if I can get away with showing around 15 thousand dollars instead of 20 thousand (for living and travel)

This document is the document that made me confused as it states the "for 12 month period" thing. I didn't know if they assumed a 12 month course or if this is the same for anyone who will study for over 6 months. A flat rate for all.

What about the duration? Do I have to keep the money in my account for 4 months at least before I apply?

There is no 4 month or 6 month rule.
But you need to explain origin of that money if u got it recently.
Say your parent got that for years. And they transfer into your account a week ago. Then thats fine for Canada.

In UK though they want to see money in bank for all 30 days before you print out application. But that not in Canada.

Are you sure about this? I have to USA the VAC in Bangladesh to send my application to Singapore. In their website it asks for 6 months bank statement. Are you saying that the money doesn't have to be present in my account for 6 months?

This is what it says on their website:

Proof of sufficient funds
Evidence of accumulated funds that show a history of at least six months. In order to
demonstrate this, we require all of the following:
- copy of bank book or statement showing financial history and the account balance
over the past six months
-a written explanation as to the source of funds
Documents pertaining to other types of assets such as stock market, investment accounts,
bonds, real estate or property, income from rental properties, proof of pension, business
transactions may be included, although these should not be used to replace the documents
requested above.
If no clear documentary evidence is available, you may provide a written explanation.
So, they do want to see 6 month bank statement. What if I deposit my tuition fees and living cost into my account now and apply in June with a 6 months statement?

P.S. In that 6 months statement, they will also get to see that I had over $ 50,000 in my account which was later withdrawn.
