Thanks for the good post and helpful replies, I'm doubtful of getting job before getting a PR card.
Here is what I plan - Get visa, go to Canada and apply for PR. Get back to India and continue job + job search.
My friends will collect PR and I'll leave for Canada.

Please point where I may go wrong. Thanks.
Continue job (your current job in India?) + job search in India, you mean?

Even I had this same dilemma/question by the OP as I don't want to leave my current job, as I joined it just 2 months ago and I would have a difficult time in Canada to do the job search in my field as I don't have enough work experience for that.

Yes, After landing and starting PR process, I'll fly back to India and join back my current job.

It is under assumption that
1. I will not be able to search for job till I get SIN / PR Card.
2. I'll get single entry visa from express entry, I'll fly back to Canada only when I get PR.
3. I have to land before my meds expire or get new meds done and restart the process.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think that you should focus on creating EE profile, getting an ITA and applying for PR eventually. It will take at least one year right from the point where you start your IELTS and ECA. If you get CoPR, then you can take 2-3 months off from work, go to Canada as a PR, and search for jobs in that 2 months period where you wait for the PR card. If you get lucky, and somebody offers you a job in those 2 months, then come back to India with your PR card and resign in India and then go back to work in Canada. If you don't find a job, then just collect your PR card and come back. Then you can figure out how to spend 2 out of 5 years in Canada to maintain your PR status.

I think I am not sure if I got what you meant in the assumptions.

I mean, how will you be able to return to India if you had a single entry visa (from express entry)? Or do you mean, you won't land in Canada until you get your PR card because it's a single entry visa? (I don't know yet, but I am assuming that one has to land in Canada to get the PR card, even though if you want it to be mailed by your friend in Canada, someone needs to correct me if I am wrong).

Even I am considering to do whatever you have mentioned, although I didn't get an ITA yet.

You will most likely get the SIN number the same day. Only a matter of minutes. I don't think you need a PR card per say to find a job. As long as you have your stamped COPR with you, that will act as proof of status till you get your PR card.

2. I'll get single entry visa from express entry, I'll fly back to Canada only when I get PR.
Not necessarily. You can fly back to Canada using a one-time "Travel Document". You can apply for this travel document at the Canadian High Commission, Delhi. You need not wait till you get your PR card to travel back.

3. I have to land before my meds expire or get new meds done and restart the process.

If you DO NOT land before your meds expire (or your current passport expires, whichever comes first), you cannot just re-do the meds and land again. Your COPR will most likely will be invalidated and you cannot travel using it. You have to start the process FROM SCRATCH. So, unless you have an extraordinary circumstance (Death of a family member {God forbid} or any other extremely compelling reason, do not try this - It is NOT worth the risk. There is no guarantee that your new application will be approved , do NOT waste the opportunity.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

1) He can return to India because he is an Indian Citizen.
2) You are right, you cannot get a PR card until and unless you have completed your landing formalities. I think it currently takes 3 - 4 months to get your PR card.
3) His assumptions are not completely correct. Check my previous post.

There are two things one might be concerned about though with your suggestion.

1. Getting 2-3 months off from work to go to Canada. (MNCs won't be giving us off for that long I suppose)
2. Coming back and resigning in India, because there would be a notice period ranging from 1-3 months.

Still, thanks for your suggestion. It might work out for some.

Yea, I read your reply. Thanks for the clarification.

1) I was referring, to his entry to Canada, not India. I mean, if he has a single-entry visa to Canada, how can he re-enter Canada after he returns to India.

I think he meant that he could go to Canada next time with PR (no need of that visa anymore).

Okay.

Even though he becomes a PR after landing, he cannot go back to Canada without his passport and PR card. If he doesn't have a PR card, then, as I have mentioned, he can apply for a one-time travel document from the Canadian High Commission in India and travel to Canada using that.

Excellent answer. I think he has clarified the point raised.

I had the same question but was waiting for an ITA to ask :)

Like I said, until you get your PR card, your stamped COPR will do the job. You need a SIN to take up any employment but you can get the SIN the same day or the very next day.

If someone could clarify please:

If a year passed since medicals (July 2015) before we can get to Canada, is it simply a matter of going for a new medical assessment?

Is this checked at border entry?

Thanks
