i was born in america, he was born in canada... before we got married i never went to canada for him.. he always came to the US to visit. he came for 2 weeks, 1 week, 3 weeks, 1 month. like he has been here several times. last year they said he needs to prove his ties to canada in order to come. they stopped him at the airport. they think he wants to sneak into the US illegally even though he has no intention to. so the biggest proof is showing my PR card once i get it to show that he is really not trying to live in the US he just sponsored me. ( he can easily live in the US if he wanted to , i would just have to sponsor him, but we plan on living in canada not the US)

the people at the airport stopped him and said unless you prove your ties you cant come to the US. so i think once he gathers all the info and i have my PR itll show his true intentions are in Canada. (its the retarded US CBP officers, always picking on the innocent ) like he can easily move here if i sponsored him i dont get whats hard to get about that!

i see that yours was denied, i'm sorry to hear that what happened?
Ah, so he wasn't actually banned. Okay, I misunderstood. I'll send a brief PM about what happened.

Did they actually ban him? I was refused entry to the US many years ago and had not trouble crossing the next time... they didnt ask any questions really

i guess i used thewrong words he wasnt banned... but he could be banned up to 5 years. i think its all racial profiling but whatever... they want him to prove his ties to canada which he did one already and they said its not good enough, then we tried 5 months later to see itll matter and they said if you try again without proper proof we can ban him the 3rd time, so we are waiting to collect very strong proof... r u canadian citizen and why were u denied? his was because his last stay was too long (1 month) but he's allowed to since he is candian

Yes, I am a Canadian Cit, born and raised... and this was 12 years ago so it could have changed. They denied me entry because they believed I was moving to the states and they wanted me to have a proper visa before I came across the border.

I suspect that the rules have changed and it is harder...

I suspect that they track things more carefully now... also... I drove across the border, I didnt fly

Damn, reading this thread is pretty scary to me...
My fiance and I aren't married yet, and haven't started the process yet obviously...but hearing so much negativity and all of the anger towards the process and the system is making me wonder if it's going to be harder than I thought?
My fiance and I are trying to have everything ready to file as soon as we marry. But the things we hear have us looking at hiring a lawyer and looking at having her coming here to the US, (her family is very close which is a part of the reason I'm willing to move to Canada...that and the fact I love SK). A nasty incident at the border, (since resolved), doesn't help matters.

We're moving forward with fingers crossed, but we're also looking into alternatives just in case.

I don't have a problem with the process but I do have a problem with the length of time it takes and the fact that they have never approved a TRV for my husband to visit me in Canada. It would relieve a lot of pressure if they actually let them visit but they don't. They are afraid he won't go back yet we both have every intention that he will. It's as though they keep their people hostage! When my husband went back for a decision on his TRV application, he said there was at least 30 people waiting and only 1 of them got approved. His aunt who is in her 50's applied for a TRV to visit her daugher who lives in Canada. She has a house, family and a job she has been at for 25 years yet they still refused her stating they did not think she would return. She has no reason to stay in Canada, her husband and other children, grandchildren and job are all at home...why would she not return? I understand that some people do not return but a lot of them have no intention of leaving and never coming back.

Just a 1 to 3 week visit from my husband now and then would certainly make everything more bearable. I am lucky to have a job that provides 4 weeks vacation and I can take vacation without pay if necessary. Some others are not...they only get 2 or 3 weeks so only being able to see their spouse twice a year is heart breaking!! Not all of my family could travel (some have and did meet him), it is too expensive for them to go to his Country (at least $2,000.00 per person) so they haven't met my husband. They've spoken to him on the phone but that's not the same.

I seriously wanted to get cheeky on the application where they ask if your spouse has met your family and if not why....and has your spouse travelled to visit you and if not why? lol oh boy they were loaded questions lol

lol the thought has occurred to me that perhaps they prolong the process because it's guaranteed tourism money

i Understand that "this all shall pass" and everything
But like someone posted i never ever have feel so weak in my life an unable to do a thing
My mood has change, i have not goal right now.. my days are just passign by unless my husband wich i love is able to be with me
I wont give up just because i love him
But i do think that Canada consulates dont realize that they are not only dealing with papers but they are really dealing with peoples life...
theres so much i can do with my career but can´t cause i don´t know when the request is gonna come to me and i already lost a lot of time..
i´ve seen people getting into depression and crying everyday just because they dont get a straight answer too..
I believe that is vicious way of abuse.. mental and social abuse.. and i have been thinking i am not alone there are hundres if not thousands like me out there.. this is something that human rights should check.
Canada migration says that they approve more Family related request on their embassy than skilled workers.. but that doesnt happen at my embassy... and i am not only a Sponsored i am a super skilled worker too!!1.

So yes... somedays is more difficult than others.. but waiting.. caus ethat the only thing i can do... cause theres no´one to complain to but the gentle people on this site.

Any time you see an immigrant, that is what he goes through everyday, everytime and forever in this country. For you, it ends when you are with your husband but for an immigrant it is forever because why? Becuase they still have family, friends, relatives etc that Immigration Canada will never allow to visit them. Its really painful especially in the winter.
That's not true. My husband is also from a non-visa exempt country so if his friends and family want to visit, they have to go through the visitor visa application process. We knew this BEFORE we decided that Canada would be our home and discussed it at length. We could have chosen his country where my family and friends do not need a visa to visit. We made our choice based on what was best for OUR future knowing that there was no perfect scenario with either country. So we weighed this factor along with the rest of the pro's and con's. If his family and friends want to visit, we will support them through the visitor visa application process. Visiting has more to do with economics than anything else and the situation with Canada is similar to any first world country. If I wandered down to the US as an unemployed person with no money and no binding "ties" to Canada, they aren't going to let me in either even though I'm visa exempt. If I had the money, the job and "ties" in Canada but had a criminal record, I'm not getting in either. So what's different here? In fact, do you know of many countries that just open their doors to visitors with a history of criminality?

Millions of people visit Canada every year, many with visitor visas so it's not true or fair to say "Canada will never allow them to visit." Let's be honest. The biggest problem is in the perception of "visit". A visit has a beginning and an end. We all know that many people really don't want to visit. They want to stay. Therein lies the crux of the situation. If you can't prove that you have enough money to support yourself while in Canada or that you intend to go home after your visit, nope, you are not getting in.

If anyone came into this thinking it was going to be easy and a slam dunk, then you were mislead right away. And if you ever for once thought oh i wish i could just give this up then you had no idea that it was the hardest thing you will ever do.
Its not easy by no means, but i loved my wife from the minute i met her and there was nothing getting in the way of that and i made sure of it.Mind you i would likely not suggest it to someone, but if they fall inlove with a person from the other side of the earth so be it,you best make sure that love is strong and can withstand anything,if there is one thing that will test your love this is it.

LOL. When we were talking about getting married and where we would live, I asked my husband how hard it would be for me to migrate to Canada. I must admit I knew only general things about Canada before he and I became friends, so when he enthusiastically told me how many immigrants live in Canada, how he grew up in a Jamaican neighbourhood, and that when time came for me to visit him to see the country it would be no problem, I believed him. The denial of my TRV was a rude awakening, as much for him as for me. He had had every confidence of it being approved, and how we would visit, return to Jamaica to settle my affairs and move me there permanently in short order. Now we are buckling in for the long haul, however long that is. Thank God, our relationship was already built on a foundation of time spent apart and working to be together, otherwise we would be quitting this journey before we even started!

Our process went as smooth as a babies but,it was done one month before the timeline and she had an easy interview,so with gods grace we came through without a hitch.I sit here and see so many others going through pure hell and my heart gos out to them,i could never imagine going through what half have gone through, and the thought of a letter stating you have been refused,oh i dont know what i would have done then but it would never be give up.
I always wish the best for everyone and just want to see everyone happy but it is a test.Whyat i cant understand is immigration watches a couple go through months of the process jump through every hoop, then get refused,go to the appeal a year or more later and fight again for this,at that point you would think an IO would say well if you have gone through all this and are still hanging on the thought that the relationship might not be true???????HOW.
But dont give up stay in there fight them you will win in the end and you will be with your loved one,one way or the other.

I am extremely despondent right now. We NEVER expected that it would be a "slam dunk" and that we would just zip right in - that isnt what is frustrating either of us (although the wait is very hard now that we are apart) - it is all the other little things that dont go easily.

for example\
1. I took my car to Canadian Tire for the Alberta out of province check - $160+ just for the check. After a quote of 600 to repair the items that failed the inspection - a light was out over the license plate, the wheel bearings had a problem and the alignment needed to be corrected, they had my car for 12 hours when they told me it was going to cost $1200 and my car was unsafe to drive. ALso, they couldnt get the parts to fix it until after the long weekend.

2. Buffalo telling us they had the fingerprints, only to send us a letter a few days later saying they didnt have them - and they wont respond to either of us.

3. The FBI misfiling our payment information for the second set of fingerprints.

4. My husband had to miss our daughters birthday.

5. (I love them dearly but) I am living in my parents basement until I can get a job.

I know I sound like a massive complainer but when things seem to go wrong day after day after day, all the little things add up and it wears and tears on a relationship.

We will be fine and we will get the visa eventually, I have no doubt about that, it is just hard to see others move ahead and we are stuck in limbo. I know it is how others feel too, so we arent alone.

I had hoped you didn't feel alone. I hope, also, that the original question was about giving up on Canada and not on your family.
