How many of you have used references outside of Canada for your passport applications?

I am not a citizen yet but might be soon (god willing). I only have one reference in Canada, the rest of them are outside Canada. My biggest dream was to obtain a strong passport that allows visa free travel overseas but since I don't have much of a social life, I don't have any guarantors. I know one person who is a citizen but he doesn't want to share his passport number in order to become a guarantor so he'll be my reference. The rest of the references will be in my home country- Turkey.

How many of you have actually put down references outside Canada when filling out your paperwork? Did it work? Did you get any trouble from Service Canada employees?

You don't need any confirmation from an unknown person online.
The official website doesn't specify that the references need to be in Canada. If it was needed, it would be listed, so yes, it will work if you put the 4 references from anywhere on the planet.
Maybe there's a delay in case Passport Canada needs to call these references and the time differences cause some missed calls, but don't stress over it, you're getting your passport as long as your application is complete!

I'm planning on having one reference from outside of Canada, he lives in the US and I chose him because he is one of the friends that has known me the longest.
I'm not too worried about it honestly.
