It doesnt take long...It is very simple...but providing supporting documentation may take you time to gather. so it's all depends on you.Cdnpr2017 said:How long does it take on average to fill out the PR app? USA to Canada outland
Depends on how long it takes you to gather the right documents (which you should already have) and how good your endurance is, lol, because it's not easy to stare at a paper and fill out extremely detailed answers all day! It took me two months.Cdnpr2017 said:How long does it take on average to fill out the PR app? USA to Canada outland
Without the advice of a lawyer and it being my first immigration application, it took me about four months of earnest part-time work (doing 1-4 hours work on it per day). This includes time spent reading and rereading manuals, forums, and other resources, checking all paperwork, requesting police checks, gathering and organizing evidence, signing and sending.Cdnpr2017 said:How long does it take on average to fill out the PR app? There's no reason it should take more than a week or two to fill out the application proper. Gathering some of the other paperwork might take a bit longer. My wife and I had it done within 3-4 weeks TOTAL!emip106 said:Without the advice of a lawyer and it being my first immigration application, it took me about four months of earnest part-time work (doing 1-4 hours work on it per day). A friend of mine hired a lawyer to help - he had his app in the mail in two weeks

No need to hire an attorney for US to Canada Outland PR, unless there's criminal or previous immigration issues involved.
I spent the two months leading up to my wedding familiarizing myself with the forms, figuring out what we'd need to acquire and include, and having all that stuff ready to go. I spent a lot of time lurking on these forums as well, and searching for things that I found confusing about the forms. That way, the process of actually filling out the forms was less stressful, and I didn't feel rushed. The vast majority of the time that we spent filling out our application was on the portion where we described how our relationship evolved after we actually met in person. That ended up being five or six single spaced pages. The actual entry of data into the forms themselves wasn't too difficult, as long as you know what you're going to need and have it ready. Since I got married in Canada, I got my police check done before we left for the wedding. I also came armed with the birth certificates, baptismal certificates, etc. I spent a decent amount of time scanning in relationship proof and compiling it in an organized format, but that was prior to the new application kit, which requests a lot less proof than we provided. Make sure you spend time proofreading. Both of you should be working on it, ideally, and quite familiar with the process. That way there's two sets of eyes to see if things are entered incorrectly, or just to catch minor errors, or you have another perspective handy if you're confused by the wording of something in the guide or on the forms.Cdnpr2017 said:I booked a week off of work to do it after my wedding
Yes I already got my FBI check back! Squeaky clean. My deferred dui was not even on it!Tubsmagee said:I don't recall it taking more than a couple days to complete the application, other than waiting for the FBI check and scheduling the medical. Very easy process, no reason to waste money on a lawyer.
Which from what I have read is not a problemCdnpr2017 said:Yes I already got my FBI check back! Squeaky clean. My deferred dui was not even on it!
It shouldn't be. If its not on your FBI report. You will have a question in your app forms that asks if you've ever been arrested, detained, etc. You'll have to give an accurate accounting of what happened, and explain how the conviction if any was deferred.Cdnpr2017 said:Which from what I have read is not a problem
I never had a conviction at all. I can honestly answer that I have not been convicted. My guilty plea was in a sense "set on a shelf" and when I completed probation it was tossed away resulting in no convictionOmegabyte said:It shouldn't be. If its not on your FBI report.
