How long can a permanent resident stay out side the country

my parents both went india before one and half year ago .my dad got sick in india thats why they did not came back .now they wanna come back after app.18 months .can they come back in calgary.i am worry coz they are canadian parmanant residant .i heard PR HOLDER can stay only a year in five year period

A resident must live in Canada for 2 of the previous 5 years or 730 days. So 3 years can be spent outside and still maintain residency. From reading here on the forum, proving residency gets tricky when you've been out of the country for a long time, but from what you've said it seems like your parents will be able to meet their residency requirements.
