For how long I can stay out side canada

Hi Guys..

I landed in Canada on 24th September 2010 and will stay here for two months.

Can i retain my my PR status if i will go back to my country and come back after 2.5 years? i.e if i will come back on around mid 2013. so will i retain my pr status as the total 5 years period will over on 24th september 2015.

could someone please help me?

That would be OK. However, you would then have to remain in Canada for at least 1 year 10 months out of the remaining 2 years 4 months. Be sure to keep lots of proof of when you enter and leave Canada.

but i thought that you have to atleast come to canada once /year even if it was for one day ?? isnt it the same like usa where u have to come and go or its ok in canada to land and come after 3 years and by that not breaking the 2/5 years rule to maintain residency?????
