This is a cute thread.

I never knew so many people met via World of War Crafts game. Hehehe. Met a couple at a wedding who met that way, thought it was unique and adorable and now I will have to tell my friend it's still adorable, just not unique.

I met my husband at a bus station in Albany, New York while travelling to Montreal, Quebec. He barely spoke any English and my French was limited to greetings and I don't speak French :-[. He was travelling with his friend who shares the same name as him. He actually fell asleep and so I spent the 5-6 hour ride talking to his friend ( who also had limited English knowledge). At duty free, my now husband sat next to me at my request so that we could all be closer together when we converse. He fell asleep on my lap and at Berri station he told me if I need anything I could come to their apartment and stay there. My friend was late picking me up and I was worried. His friend had given me his email address and their phone # earlier. I spent 2 days in Montreal visiting. After I came home, I immediately added his friend and asked for his ( my husband's ) email address. Talked for 3 months and for my birthday he sent me a ticket to Montreal and a box of Godiva chocolates and the rest is history.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I love reading people's love stories. They're like a little window into the soul.

Agreed, this thread is cute, its nice seeing how people came to be husband and wife.

We met through both of our folk dance groups we did tours in Canada and Europe, and randomly.. my story is way too long because theres so much detail to it, but we talked the first day and had too much in common we couldn't believe.. and it turned out that his family knew my uncles best friends family in Europe. small world!

..the rest is just history. :)

We feel like it was completely meant to be, and my dance and his choices led us to that day and place to meet.
We both always talk about those days in detail, and will never forget it :)

I feel old-fashioned, too. We met at the office, she was in HR and I was in IT. I'd taken a six week assignment in Tokyo because no one else in our office in Toronto could be bothered going back to Tokyo yet again. They were all married and had kids, whereas I-despite being in my mid-thirties-had racked up only a failed engagement and a couple of other relationships that fell apart at around the two year mark. I'd been with the firm only two months at the time, and a six week stint in the world's largest city seemed like the opportunity of a lifetime.

Boy, what did I know. It's been almost six years, now.

It was 1977 when I was 13 and he was 14 that we became penpals. My cousin and his best friend were penpals, and through them we becames penpals. I immigrated to Canada in 1979 when I was 15. That summer, he came on holiday for a month to visit his family in the Toronto area. We dated, and he knew that I was 'one' (he was only 16!). He had to go back because he had already joined the Navy. We wrote and we called each other. There was no internet and it was all snail mail and many costly phone calls. He tried to ask for a transfer to the Cdn. Navy and also tried to immigrate, but he wasn't old enough. We had no money to visit each other. Eventually, as time went by, we drifted apart and he got married to someone else, and I did the same a few years later. Fast forward to 2007 -- I always wondered how things had turned out for him. I googled his name a few times, but it wasn't until in 2009 that I found him. Turns out we both had had bad marriages. The first time he heard me on the phone he was surprised to hear I had a Canadian accent (it had been 22 years since we last spoke), and he later said that he knew in his heart that we would be together again. On Friday we are celebrating our 6-month anniversary and we will be celebrating it together as he arrives tomorrow for a visit :) Only 20 hours to go before I see him again. It's been a loooong winter without him. I have been really enjoying this thread, and I hope more stories are posted. They are very interesting.

We met old school at a bar while I was in the states on a girls weekend. Then started dating long distance immediately. It was great.

Aww what a very precious story. I love hearing these types of stories. It warms my heart.
Two hearts that were meant to be will always find their way home to each other in the end. :)

We met through a mutual friend's blog site. I started a blog 5 years ago when I was teaching English abroad. He started his the same year but we didn't really make any comments on each others' site for awhile. Then one day our friend made a post daring everyone to put up a picture of themselves at age 13. That's when my husband started really commenting on my blog. I thought he was just being friendly, but my blog friends thought it interesting how he was always the first one to comment. And my mom emailed me and said that she really liked my new blog friend from *** . She thought he was really funny and that he understood me. After a year, we became Facebook friends as well. One day we were chatting on FB and he said, "Are we flirting?" And I replied, "Maybe...". And he said, "Do you have Skype?" That was the first time I heard his voice. Talking to him was so natural, and I think we chatted for over 3 hours that first time. After a few months of this we decided we needed to meet in person. Because we were good friends already, we knew that even if there wasn't a physical attraction when we met, we would still have a good time together. It was very strange meeting him at the airport for the first time. Maybe it's cliche, but it's like we had known each other our whole lives. Two people from very different worlds meeting and finding they have so much in common. The world is a strange but wonderful place.

When the immigration officer asks me/him/us how we know our relationship is genuine I think I might tell this story. It really is better to fall in love with your friend. Take your time people, make sure he/she is the one. ;)

I was in COsta Rica for Spanish school for a month and I met my husband in the San Jose airport. We had the same flight to Canada and he was going to work there for 6 months. I was in love right away!! We kept in touch the whole time and were together every weekend(we lived in different cities). We were dating basically the entire time and got married one year and a month after meeting! Now, we've been married 8 months!

We met in early 2008 on plentyoffish.com. We talked online daily for months, and one night we started talking and when I looked up I realized we had been talking all night! We met in person after about 8 or 9 months...at the airport he took my hand for the first time, and I knew that he was the one I had waited for. Everything between us felt so natural and easy, and we fell very deeply in love with each other. I went to visit him in Brazil every few months but being apart was so difficult for us both, we decided to get married. :) We celebrated our first anniversary 3 weeks ago together, in Canada, and life is feeling so good!! Sometimes the one you are supposed to love just doesn't live in your backyard - you have to search the whole world ;)

Heehee, I'm joining you guys in the WOW genre of meeting my spouse. We both played WOW together and he was the GM of our guild lol. Just friends that talked online here and there. Being quite unhappy with my current life at the time, I decided to go on a trip by myself to visit some of these friends I had met on WOW. My family thought I was crazy, a girl travelling alone to meet people from an online game. Anyways, I flew to California and they picked me up and we just hit it off! 1 1/2 years later we got married and now this new journey of immigration. I can't wait for it to be over, long distance sure takes a toll on you after a while. Although we no longer play WOW, we now play LOL together :p

Howdy,

Well I to meet my soon to be spouse online, through one of those online dating services. She is from the Philippines, but in Calgary temporarily, so one thing to another, I went up to see her, we hit it off great, then she came and stayed with me for a bit, even better. Then I was back up there at spring break this year. Now it looks like I will be back up there in a few weeks, and we will say our I'do's, before she heads back home, and we start our own trip through the immigration process.

I am sure you will see lots of "Newb" questions from me, as time goes on here, I can't believe the wealth of information available from these boards! Sometimes it is almost overload.
