i sent my application in Nov 2019, and i found some guy post their timeline says they are starting the background check. but i found nothing from my online status. even i know there is not a must for everybody enter into a background check, i am still curious about. and i m thinking i might be in a high risk for that check.

It says so on your GCKEY account, once you've linked your application. You'll see a message stating ''We're currently processing your background check''.

I am pretty sure it shows 'we are currently processing your background check' since day 1 after you link your application online.

It did for me, however form my research here I cannot conform this. BGC has been a very touch as go subject here. Some say the BGC started for them as soon as they linked their application like me. Others come on here with excitement that their BGC started after so many months and after med and/or bio sometimes. One thing I can confirm as the statement that “we are processing your background check” has been evident from day one of my wife’s sponsorship and TRV application. Which leads me to believe that it a generic statement for all applications on GCKey.

We need more members to chime in.

The most reliable way to tell is to order GCMS notes. It has very clear indicator there which stage the BGC is in.

Ordered a month ago. But abviously it’s taking longer now. I’ll update this thread if I see anything worth mentioning in the GCMS notes.

Yes, it'll say in your GCMS notes. Background check happens at different stages depending on the case officer. Mine started 4 months in, a few people said theirs started days after AOR, other's haven't started yet. It has no bearing on how slowly/quickly your application will be processed.

Why can't you create and link in GCKEY? I thought you just needed your UCI and application number to link GCKEY? You are the applicant so you should have the right to access your own application?

Thanks for the insight. I think you may be mistaken. I have no issues with GCKey. I’m the sponsor, I log into my wife’s GCKey for updates on our sponsorship and TRV application. Would I see something different if I (sponsor) were to crate a GCKey and link our sponsorship application?

When I called IRCC and spoke with an actual immigration officer back on March 18th, she told me my eligibility review has started and my wife’s BGC has started. However, in GCKey (PA’s account) under eligibility review it says “we will send you a message once we start your eligibility review” and under BGC, it says it has started. Does that mean my wife’s eligibility review has not stated? Bcs the officer told me that my eligibility has started. 11 FEB 2020 AOR....

your wife's eligibility status started at the very beginning and will not change until she is approved in the end. But BGC started in your GCKey account is not reliable. As you said, some applicants have that started in the beginning, some started late in the process. For my case, it started 6 months after application was submitted.

BGC also have different levels, Criminality Check is the very basic and normally done in a few days or a few weeks. Security Screen (SS) is the most complex one and normally takes from a few months to 2 years.
