Hi,

My wife is from Nicaragua as well. She's still there. I returned to Canada to find a job after the civil unrest broke out. After things calmed down, we decided to continue with the application anyway.

Here is my timeline so you have another data point:

Application Received: August 9, 2018
Acknowledgement of Receipt: November 27, 2018
Sponsorship Approval: December 11, 2018
Medical Request: December 11, 2018
Medical Passed: December 20, 2018
Forwarded to Mexico: January 28, 2019
Acknowledgement from Mexico: February 20, 2019

We haven't heard anything since then. Just passed 10 months.

Curt.

Great thanks so much for the information it's great to have more perspective, there aren't many people applying form Nicaragua. What province will you be settling in, and if needed have you looked into health insurance?

I am a Canadian Citizen but my parents are from Nicaragua and I've been living here for almost 8 years. After all the issues last year we decided it was time to move, and even more so now. It's not as dangerous as it was but the economy is going downhill (not that it was any better before).

Our timeline is:

Application Received: March 5, 2019
Acknowledgement of Receipt: April 5, 2019
Sponsorship Approval: April 24, 2019
Biometric Request: April 23, 2019
Biometric Passed: April 26, 2019
Medical Request: April 24, 2019
Medical Passed: May 17, 2019
Forwarded to Mexico: N/A
Acknowledgement from Mexico: N/A

Please keep us posted on how your process goes. It's probably felt like a very long wait for you I'm sure but on the bright side your two months away from the one year mark.

I was reading in a forum about Mexico that they are usually super quiet and don't communicate anything and then boom a few weeks before the 12 month mark you get everything. So best of luck to your family!!

Hi,

I live in Calgary. She's going to come here. I'm pretty sure she can apply for health insurance right away in Alberta, but I have to confirm that.

We're hoping to hear something in July or August. I'll be happy if we don't go over 12 months.

I'll let you know when we hear something.

Thanks,

Curt.

Our application was received in December 2018, in March 2019 they asked for and approved the medical. We sent the on-line police certificate at the same time and haven't heard any complaints about it.

I'll try and make a timeline as well:

Application Received: December 2018
Medical Request: March 2019
Medical Passed: March 2019

We didn't get many notifications when things were received or approved, we just saw it on the website. We were also told that no biometrics would be needed and that there would be no interview. Also the case is being processed in Sydney Nova Scotia and not mexico for some reason. Maybe because of us applying out-land. We haven't heard anything since the medical, and they asked for police and everything etc all at once, coincidentally this was all promptly after I sent them a letter expressing my displeasure and pointing out that their denial of her visitor visas without reading them was a crime. Not sure if I mentioned earlier that my wife had applied twice for a visitor visa and they denied both, I investigated using the access to information act and found that they didn't even read the application before denying it, and kept the money... AKA Fraud. Things sped up after I provided my evidence of this, guess theres a fire under their seat now.

Were still in Guatemala now and according to the IRCC site theres no other documents we need to provide, so now we just wait. Our plan is to live in Nova Scotia where my family recently moved to.

Hi,

We sent the application to Nova Scotia in August of 2018. They started processing it there before transferring it to Mexico in January of this year.

We also applied for a visitor visa in 2017. We wanted to visit my family, and had no intention of staying permanently at that time. I spent days on the application, and they rejected her in about 12 hours. I'm also positive they didn't read the application. I wasn't happy.

Anyway, good luck with your application. I'll let you know when I hear something from IRCC.

Curt.

My wife got Alberta Health Insurance easy. She provided her visitors record form (good for one year) and we had it within a week. Be sure to go to a DMV that does AHS stuff. It is free. I also reccomend having a visitors record or a stamp in passport to prove she is residing her for a longer term.

Seems like we are all pretty much in the same boat, just a waiting game from here on out.

Best of locuk!!
