Hi everyone,

How can a Canada permanent resident bring a child to Canada to live with him, while the child is still waiting for his PR application result?

Because the PR processing time is about 12 months. Is there a way to bring the child to Canada much earlier?

You need to apply for a TRV. If the TRV is refused, you can try applying for a TRP. If that is also refused, the child will need to remain outside of Canada until PR is approved.

Thank you scylla for your fast reply.

After the child has his Canada PR status: If the parents have to live outside of Canada for many years and bring the child with them, can the child renew his Canada PR card after 5 years? (Because the child doesn't live in Canada 730 days during last 5 years. The child is too young to live by himself)

Only if at least one of the parents is a Canadian citizen.

Thank you scylla! Then if the child lives 1095 days within 5 years outside of Canada with his Canadian citizen parent, can the child apply for Canada citizenship?

I read on https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-29/page-2.html#docCont
that:

"The Minister may, in his or her discretion, after having reviewed a person’s particular circumstances, waive on compassionate grounds,
- in the case of a minor, the requirement respecting length of physical presence in Canada set out in paragraph (1)(c)"

These exceptions are rarely granted. Assume your child will have to be in Canada to qualify for citizenship.

Have you obtained sole custody of the child and have you identified the biological mother on the birth certificate? There is no point in applying to sponsor your child unless you know you have already established this. Are you the biological father of the baby? There seems to be more to this story. You are indicating that you may have been in a common law relationship (ie. living with someone) for at least one year and you also have a child who the mother abandoned.
