Is the number HK post provides not in service? I don't know why it would have to be email only... Sorry not trying to be difficult, quite the contrary. I know how frustrating postal services and bureaucracy can be.

The complete lack of empathy and compassion you receive on the other end of the line can be staggering at times.

Hi kettle, I mean CIC HK can only be contacted by email.

Speaking of bureaucracy, I think CIC is worse.

I've been following this thread, and just wanted to say, I'm so sorry. I hope HK will cooperate and do what needs to be done to rectify the situation for you.

Thank you..

CIC HK haven't replied to me yet. I think it's going to be really tough to ask CIC HK to file a case with HK Post to find the package.

I am going to push HK Post again to see if they can override the procedure and trace the package for me. It doesn't make much sense to me that only sender can start the trace procedure.

If this doesn't work out by the end of this week, I honestly think my only and last option is to go to my MP and see what they can do..

This whole mess is wearing me and my wife out. She's a US PR and she can't go back to US without a passport and hence she's having the risk of overstaying in Canada..

If you have enough details you can pose as the sender and start a claim.

Perhaps not the best choice when dealing with legal documents, but there is that option too. Especially if your MP gets you nowhere.

Yes, I would have done it if I had all the information..here's the reply from HK Post when i tried to file a claim:

##############
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the above mentioned item.

Since all postal administrations require full details of both sender and addressee for further tracing. In order to confirm the sender’s status at the initial enquiry, the enquirer will be advised to provide following information and document:

(A) A copy of certificate of Posting;
(B) Description of content and its value;
(C) Details of sender’s name and address;
(D) Details of addressee’s name and address.

##############

Perhaps easier for CIC to provide me with those information instead of asking them to file a claim with HK post office.

Because your package was sent using HK Post, Canadapost can not and will not track that package for you. It usually takes 6-7 weeks for ANYTHING to come from HK.

6 -7 weeks? That's not what I have heard from any others.

Registered air mail usually takes no longer than 2 weeks, based on what I found online and what I was told by HK post.

Please keep us updated on what's going on. I am also waiting for passport from HK, your story put me on the verge of a heart attack.
I am sure everything will be OK - one way or another. Just hang in there!

Remember it still has to clear customs in Vancouver. That can add a tremendous amount of time not to mention Canada Post will deliver at their own speed...

I used to order many things from HK. I used to get them in about 2 weeks or so as you stated. The last 6 months or so, nothing, I mean NOTHING arrives until about 6 weeks has passed. I recently, just yesterday factually, received a package I had been waiting for for the last 4 months. I am not trying to scare you here, just giving you some information about recent delivery times.

I hope yours doesn't take as long. Best of luck to you.

Oh wow, didn't know that. Well now it's been 5 weeks, still no sign of delivery. no tracking on Canada Post either. We still don't know whether it has entered Canada yet.

We called the MP office yesterday and we were assisted by a assistant of the MP. She said our case is quite complicated and she needs to consult with her colleagues first.

Our top priority now is to make sure CIC agree that if we don't receive the application by July 3rd, which is one year from the medical exam, we don't have to reapply everything again.

USUALLY, if it is due to postal issues that your COPR expires, the most they ask is that you complete another medical exam and then they reissue you a new COPR reflecting a new date. You likely will not have to complete the entire application package again.

Usually though

Canada Post will scan it at customs, or the originating postal service will. It will normally get a scan saying that the package has arrived at x y z country for processing.

That's all I can ask for...

We are spending money restoring my wife's visitor status as well as getting a new passport if we don't receive it. another 300 bucks to redo the medical exam doesn't hurt as much now ;D

I think in order to get papers re-issued with the new passport, you somehow need to get officially acknowledged by CIC that the old passport and COPR had vanished.
Otherwise it may create another cycle of wasting time and nerves:
You: We sent you the new passport to re-issue papers
CIC: Why? We've sent you all you needed long ago
You: It's vanished
CIC: Call the postal service
etc...

I think I would go to PM and asked him/her to assist with getting a CLEAR answer from CIC as to what exactly needs to be done by you in order to resolve the problem.
