So if you were flying Air Canada, why would they refuse you if you had evidence (COPR)?
Because of the first line there: "The permanent resident card is the only valid proof of permanent resident status in Canada."

A BSO has greater discretion - once the BSO determines someone is a PR, they must admit them (they can issue a removal order or report them if there is a residency obligation issue, but they still let them into Canada).

So Air Canada wants the PR card, even though a BSO would accept a COPR.

Odd way of doing things. I mean, if the Canadian government recognizes the CPR as proof of PR status, why wouldn't the airline? They need to change that...

Anyway, there shouldn't be any issues with getting the PR card sent over from Canada. If there is an issue or delay in receiving the PR card, my wife will apply for the Returning Resident Permit (shouldn't be any issues getting that...).

In other news, my wife's passport is on the FedEx truck out for delivery in HK! Awesome!

I plan to get it back by the end of October.

Right, so my wife's passport has been delivered. Just a note to others sending their passports via courier: when you track it online, it will probably show that it has been delivered to the mailroom, which is located on the 14th floor. The mailroom is actually the mailroom for the Consulate, so don't worry, the folks in the mail room will deliver it to the 12th floor (Immigration Section).

The countdown has begun!! 20 business days plus maybe another couple of weeks for sending it back to us, and we're good to go...

Cheers,
FS

OMG I'm so excited,

our ECAS status has been changed to "in-process"
We started processing your application on September 12, 2012.

someone walk me through this again? this means the application will be finalized soon? what's next? the passport requrest?
I didn't get a medical request like most people seem to get.

We are very excited, if it's indeed the end of the line, we would have had very good processing time.

Congrats! They're working on your application.

For us, the file was transferred from CIC-M to HK on July 13. AOR from HK on July 25. PPR about a month later on August 28 (it took over two weeks to get here!). Passport sent on September 19. We expect to have the passport back by the end of October.

Keep checking e-cas to see if an interview is required. Usually when it goes to in process, without requests for anything further, you're good to go...meaning, they'll just send you a PPR.

Good luck and hope it goes quickly for you!!

This page explains traveling without a PR card:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp
Permanent residents returning to Canada by airplane, boat, train or bus must show a valid PR Card or travel document before boarding.

For us it happened in reverse. The PPR letter was dated August 28 and e-cas changed to in process on August 30. From what others have said, and based on my own case, I think they are working on our files before e-cas is changed to in process.

My best guess is that you will get the PPR a month after receiving the AOR. Did you get an AOR from HK? If your case is straightforward, and no additional documents are requested, I think you can expect to have the visa in about 4 months after HK has received the file from CIC-M.

So that's good...about the same timing.

What's your case like? Chinese married to Chinese? Any kids? First marriage? If your case is straightforward, you should be getting the passport request by the middle of October (maybe sooner). It takes the HK visa office about 1 month to send the passport back...

I would think our case is pretty straightforward. First marriage, no kids. Taiwanese married to Taiwanese. Im a Canadian citizen and have been in Canada since I was 10

One thing interesting to note. My app was transfered wrongly (admitted by the CIC) to the Singapore office and it sat there for a few month. Maybe they tried to expedite my app because of this?

Yes, I would suspect that they are processing your application quickly, but not only because of the mistake they made. They still need to go through your app and assess it. It sounds like you have a solid case, so I think this is also why it's being processed quickly.

Good luck and hope you get the visa soon!!

got an email today from the VO with an attachement of a "mailing address form"

the form is basically two mailing labels and asks us to fill out the name address and telephone#.

what's makeing my heart pound is what else is written in the email
"Please note that your permanent resident visa / Confirmation of Permanent Residence document will be valid to November 18, 2012. You must travel to Canada by this date."

but we didn't recieve a passport request? what are they going to mail us with the mailing labels?

It is a passport request. They just forgot to send you the main part telling you that they request passport. They want the original passport and the labels printed and filled out. I suspect your medical expires around Nov. 18th right? Thats why you should act quickly. If you need their address I can give it to you from what i have received. We got the same as you got just with a page asking for one more document and the passport. Our medical expires on Nov. 15th, so we will have same visa expiry as yours.
They will send you your passport with the visa and the COPR back with those labels.
