Hi

I applied to Canada Citizenship in Jun,2015 and got the AOR in July,2015 . It might take some time to get the TEST Date .

Now I'm planning to go India for few couples of months to see my mother . My questions are,

1) Is it ok to go my home country to see my mother ?
2) If i go to India then will it negatively impact to my canada citizenship ?
3) How long i can go to India on vacation or emergency

1. You can always go to your home country no one can deny.

2. This won't negatively impact your application but may delay the process like RQ. They may ask your long absence from Canada and how you supported yourself during this time. Again almost 99% of the applicants give the same reason that they want to visit parents who are ill or need help.

3. If you have applied on old 3/4 rule then there is no requirement for you in regards to citizenship application provided you are able to maintain your PR requirements (2 yrs / 5 yrs - sliding window). If you have applied under new rule 4/6 yrs rule. Then it causes suspicion on you intent to reside clause.


Ultimately you are the decider of your situation. Avoid long trips if you can and ask someone to check your mail/email to see for test invite or doc request.

Couple months early in the process no big deal at all. But, of course, be sure to have someone trustworthy collecting your mail who will immediately inform you of any communication requiring prompt attention.

Beyond that, CIC's information, including at the links provided by thecoolguysam, fail to fully illuminate potential pitfalls or risks . . . and in particular understate the import of the intent-to-reside element.

It is one thing to travel and visit, another to spend an extended period of time staying/living abroad, and very much another to be residing abroad while the application is pending. When is a long visit so long as to be more than a visit? long enough to be residing abroad? There is no definitive answer. That leaves CIC with a lot of discretion.

Again, two months (three months is more than a couple months) is no big deal so long as you do not miss any communications from CIC. More than that, warrants more consideration, some serious consideration.
