Hello everyone,

I am looking for guidance in applying for my sister to be a child caregiver through the home caregiver program in Quebec. Can anyone please tell me if that is possible because I need help after pregnancy? Thank you.

Hello everyone,

Start with the link. You will need a LMIA as well as MIFI from province. You will have posted the job with full-time salary with benefits, and haven’t been able to hire anyone. So if you haven’t started the process then follow the steps for posting the job in your area. She will want to get her ECA for education assuming she has ECE, PSW or education background and employment letters proving her experience as a caregiver. Assume you can pay her a full-time salary of about $34k per year. Once you have approved LMIA/MIFI then she can apply for a closed work permit.

Thank you so much for responding to my question. I appreciate it.
She does not have an ECE, but she has a B.Com. and MBA. She does not have experience as a caregiver, though. Salary is not a problem; I am figuring out how to get my sister's help and pay her simultaneously while she is in Canada (when the time comes). So can I or we hire her without a caregiver's experience? Also, if I were to go ahead with the process, would it be hard to fill out all the documentation? Appreciate your guidance. Thank you again.

You need to prove you couldn’t hire any qualified person in Canada. So you need to post the position on job boards for a few months and wait for responses. You may find someone in Canada. If you have people apply then you must show ESDC why you couldn’t hire them over your sister. So if someone has an ECE and 2 years work experience in a daycare with infants, and you don’t hire her, you need to explain to ESDC why your sister is the better choice. The issue is that your sister has no education or work experience in the field so for you to say that no one in Canada can do the job is not true. You have to show that only your sister is experience and qualified enough, and you cannot do that. Bringing family over is even more scrutinized. Suggest getting a lawyer to do the paperwork since you have to set up a business to do payroll/taxes etc.

Thank you so much again. You are awesome! All of that you said makes sense. Now I hope I can find a lawyer who isn't too expensive. Could you please give some suggestions for a lawyer who handles such paperwork in Quebec? Thank you again, and have a wonderful time.

Cohen Immigration is the moderator of the forum and based in Montreal. Click on the top links. Lawyers aren’t cheap and you must start the hiring process in Canada first.
