Should we go with the SDS or NON SDS being an HIV patient if I go with the SDS my medical will be processed first and IRCC might not know that I have already paid the entire year fees for the university so should I go for Non SDS? So that they will be having idea because I will have already started my Visa Application?

If you come from a country where there is TB there is a chance you may need to do a sputum test of any irregularity is found on your chest x-ray. The irregularity could be from any form of damage to the lungs. That would mean a ~3 month delay while you do sputum culture and repeat x-ray. Personally I would get the medical started. Depending on what province you are applying to and what medication you are taking a procedural fairness letter may also be sent regarding the cost of medication.

Tiugh to say whether you will just be approved or there will be issues tyat you need to address. Also depends on the non-HIV part of your application.

I'm from Nigeria. My case is very complex.

I got my medical request on Oct 10 2021. Because I've had tuberculosis before, I was recommended for a sputum test. That takes two months for a result to be available so I didn't get any news till November. I passed.

By January 2022, I did a follow up x-ray and all my results were sent back to IRCC. I thought I was done but a week later, they sent back a new prompt, asking me to visit a pulmonary specialist and get evaluated by them. They also said to submit a report. I did all of that and submitted it by Feb 18 2022.

My medicals changed from "we have requested a medical examination" to "medicals under review". I didn't hear anything till June 2022 when I was given a Procedural Fairness letter because my medication cost more than what public healthcare allows for a year. They gave me 60 days to make a healthcare plan and address the concerns. It was very complicated but I did it. I was thinking I wouldn't hear from them till April only to see my medicals passed yesterday. So yeah, it's an unusual case.
Any update about your application?

Hi everyone, need your help guys. Im from the Philippines and about to lodge my application. Do I need to indicate in my SOP that l’m HIV positive and explain in details my medication plan or just inform them during my medical about my situation? Thank you!

Obviously Yes, why?? Were you intending to hide it??? You had to inform it to your doctor as well when going for medicals. Please keep things straight.

Hello! I'm also from the Philippines. Planning to apply for January 2024 intake. I have a PLHIV friend who's in Canada already and he told me that he did not indicate in his SOP(Statement of Purpose) his status coz SOPs are meant for your studies but you have to put in the forms, tell the doctors during your medical and be transparent about your status. That's what he told me. I don't know with others.

Some one informed me that I will have to show funds to prove that I will be able to spend for the Treatment for the HIV while staying in Canada.

I'm not sure. Coz we have the option of shipping our meds from our home country to Canada for the whole duration of your studies.
