Hey OP and to all Philippine residents, there's a private organization that provides HIV testing at no cost. I saw it on TV about a week ago. According to the website, they can give you the result on the same day so if you get the chance to visit before the 3 weeks are up, you'd be able to take action beforehand.

I did took the test the first time and the result was negative. Unfortunately I need to get retested from a private institution for immigration. Thank you for informing me though.

Hi Juhan

We are on the same boat, the only thing is that we are applying under FSW way back 2010, we had our remedical at St lukes last December 2014. Unfortunately, my eldest tested HIV positive.

Currently, he is already 25 y/o but was only 20 y/o when I lodged our application as a family. We did not have any problem on our 1st medical way back 2012, apparently he just contracted the virus recently, however his cd4 count has declined significantly that fast that he needed to be on ARV.

Unlike you, me as a mother, would not want to leave him behind with his condition. So i am seeking everyone in this forum to guide us to overcome the inadmissibility that CIC might impose on our application.

Lastly, i am also from the Phils Juhan, you might want us to share our journey on this kindly pm me. Goodluck to us.

Hi Canada4gud,

Thank you for posting on my thread. I am sorry to hear about his diagnosis.

My mom actually prefers to fight for this if my confirmatory comes out positive. But I would rather be dropped from the application and make sure that the rest of my family gets approved for PR. My plan is to fight for it once everyone is approved.

Can you send me a PM ma'am? I tried sending one to you but your inbox is full. I would like to get in touch with you further.

Thanks and God bless

You can only PM people once you've posted 10 times, so unfortunately that option is not available yet.

They key to overcoming medical inadmissibility will be to prove that the costs of your son's medical treatments will be less than the maximum amount allowed per year under medical admissibility (which I believe is currently sitting around $6,500 per year). I would start reachering the costs of HIV treatment in Canada now so that you can understand whether your son's care will fall above or below the maximum allowed. Arguing against medical inadmissibility invovles providing a great deal of evidence to support your case (e.g. costs of treatment, letters from doctors). When the letter comes, you aren't given very much time to respond. So best to prepare now given your son's condition.

Good luck.

Dear sycilla

Your reply is greatly appreciated, much your effort to do the research. I admire people who extend their help to those who are loosing hope.

My son is now taking a single pill called efavirenze, lamivudine and tenofovir. I also had him undergo vaccinations to avoid those opportunistic infections which might worsen his present situation. All his med exams were clear aside from this, never been hospitalized for the last 5 years and appears to be healthy. I also believe that the best person to know the cost for the treatment are those people living in canada, so perhaps you are heaven sent to us to overcome the excessive demand.

I hope to hear from you soon, thank you & GOD bless.

I have no knowledge of or experience with HIV treatment costs in Canada and can't offer you any information or advice on the costs of these treatments here. I was recommending that you do this research yourself in my last post since you are familiar with the disease and treatments (you can probably find a fair amount of this information on the internet). Again, I would recommend that you start researching now rather than waiting until you receive a letter from CIC.

You should also try looking up the posts of a user named "computergeek" on this forum. He had issues with inadmissibility due to HIV and I believe he may have included the costs of some of the treatments in his posts (although I could be mistaken). His posts also contain a great deal of good information on the process of responding to the fairness letter from CIC if they make a finding of medical inadmissibility and what you can try to do to change this decision in your favour.

Good luck.

Here's one of computergeek's threads as an example (there are more - but you'll have to search for them):

Can you check this link?
http://medicallyinadmissible.com/

And also this
http://medicallyinadmissible.com/2012/05/08/the-least-expensive-treatment-option/

There is a link at the bottom of the page that will allow you to check drug prices from Canada online pharmacy. You might want to check if the regimen your son follows will fall under the boundary of admissibility.

Thanks and Godbless

Jhuanjuan: I am sorry about your situation. If your test does come out as confirmatory and if your boy friend knew that he was hiv positive and intentionally hid it from you, it is a crime in most countries and you do have legal recourse.

Also, look at www.healthboards.com and www.poz.com for an online support community that really does help . I hope things work out for you.

This might not be perfect place to discuss this but I should suggest you go see a counselor in your local area to do a confirmatory test and then get information on how to manage this condition.

Please note that this is a chronic condition and NOT a disease much like Blood Sugar or Cholesterol. If managed properly, you can live a full life without losing any years from your life. Also, with new and improved medications coming every year, easier managing and ultimately curing this condition is a real possibility. So hang in there.

Here are two websites I found that have counseling sessions. They also have free testing so you can do your confirmatory test. I saw in your post that you got a negative after you did it on your own. That is a good sign and false positives are not that uncommon. So please get the reconfirmation done and then think about taking yourself out of the application.

Best of luck. I will be thinking about you and your family.

Thank you Suryak86. I really hope the confirmatory comes out negative. I've been going through a lot and I know that this is very hard for my mom as well. I really appreciate your extended help with regards to this.

Just to give you an update on my situation, my mom would like to continue with the application and wouldn't want me to be dropped from the PR list. I have mixed feelings with this matter. She doesn't want to leave me here in the Philippines and I appreciate it but I'm worried that everyone will be denied.

We are still waiting for the confirmatory result. I am trying to take care of myself now so that I won't need ARV if ever the results comes out positive.

Thanks for all the support and Godbless
