hello guys, so i'm going to propose to my girlfriend who lives in Greece when she comes back here to visit and we're hoping to get married shortly after that. I just have a few questions before we start her sponsorship. I know lawyers are really expensive but I have also been looking into getting a consultant which are heavily cheaper. I want to know if it's worth it because i'm not sure if i actually need one to do the application but then again i don't want any screw ups. Also I know there are other government fees to be paid, like 1040 in total to sponsor her, plus 85 for biometrics, not sure how much medical is.. aside from those are there any other fees? We also hope to get alot of pictures when she comes back again, like from the marriage and places we will go and such, will that be enough proof? lastly, I was reading somewhere that immigration asks you how you will support yourself for the time you are here, will they ask her this if she plans to stay for 6 months? Last time she came was for two months and they only asked where she was staying, and she got away with simply staying at a friends. If they do ask how she plans to support herself can she simply say a friend again? a future hubby? Can she just say she will have no finance and that I will take care of her? Thanks in advance.

Consultants are cheaper for a reason: you get what you pay for. You are better off doing it yourself.

Medical fee varies from office to office and country to country.

Just pictures are not enough proof. You need to look at the checklist for the required proofs.

Yes, CBSA can certainly ask her how she will support herself. She should have a return ticket.

She should have her own finances.

thanks for the reply canuck, I was just wondering why they hadn't asked her last time as to how she was gonna support herself here. The problem is, she doesn't work but I do, she just did her last year of exams and awaiting her results. I don't get why she can't just stay at my place for 6 months, she doesn't need to spend a penny I take care of her when she's here.

It is entirely up to the officer when she enters.

What happens if you break up and kick her out? How will she support herself or get back to her country? Having her own funds means she can deal with such a situation. CBSA considers all of these angles.

She will need proof that she can support herself. They need to know that if you kick her out she will have enough funds to return home.

Will a return ticket be sufficient enough for proof?
Not really, if she gets there and a week later you break up, will she have money to change her flight? If you lose your job and can't support her, what will she do?
