I'm just about to pay my fees online. I am sponsoring my fiance (U.S. Citizen) under the In-Canada Family Class. I am confused though, what do I pay? just these ones?
Sponsorship application (per application) $75.00
Principal applicant $475.00

or this one too:
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490.00

??
Thanks!

technically you only need to pay the sponsorship fee and the application fee as the application is submitted.

if approved you will be asked to pay the RPRF fee.

I paid all three in advance, just to avoid any delays in processing my partner's visa down the line. I assume that the RPRF is refunded if your application is not approved.

it is better to if you can afford to pay it all at once, that way there are no delays later down the line. It takes several weeks to process the fees, plus the time it takes for them to send you the letter that they need it.

I better chime in and duplicate what the first two answerers made clear. Ya gots to pay 'em all, but the Right of Permanent Residence Fee is only applicable if the applicant passes. BUT!!! As said above, you can avoid delays by paying it ahead of time. As the first guy also said, the $490.00 is refunded in full if the application is denied. on the form "Application to Sponsor and Undertaking" you can mark whether you want to proceed with the application for permanent residence if you are found ineligible to sponsor, or you can withdraw your application and all fees will be paid back less the $75.00 for the application. From what I understand, if you proceed with the application and it is rejected, which it most likely will be, you will still be eligible to appeal the decision, I think you surrender your ability to appeal if you withdraw the app.

Could be extremely wrong, but I am pretty sure that's the catch. That may actually only apply to Applying from Outside of Canada

Good Luck!!

One more thing,
the document checklist says to include the copy of receipt stamped by a financial institution... do I still need to get it stamped or something if I paid online?

In addition to the OP's topic (We're doing the Outside Canada Spousal Sponsorship app), what is the $50 "travel documents" fee? Do we pay it? I thought maybe that was the Permanent Residence card?

So altogether (for us):

Right of Permanent Residence Fee: $490

Sponsorship Application: $75

Principal Applicant: $475

Then what's the "travel documents"?

Nope, this isn't correct. There is no point in electing to have the application processed anyway if the sponsor if found ineligible. That ends up being nothing but a CIC money grab. Without an eligible sponsor, the applicant can't possibly be approved at the overseas embassy - so by checking to have the application processed anyway, you only set yourself up to lose the $475 applicant fee AND you force the application to go overseas and be assessed (with all the time that would take) when there is no way for it to be approved. Spousal sponsors should ALWAYS elect to withdraw the application and refund the fees if they are found ineligible to sponsor. That gets the application back to you so that you can fix whatever made the sponsor ineligible and then start again.

Also it makes absolutely no sense to let the application go on to the overseas embassy and be refused so that you can appeal the refusal. That's just crazy. You can't appeal a sponsor's ineligibility - but you can sometimes fix it. Once it's fixed, the applicant be be properly assessed. An appeal takes years and costs thousands . . . it's not for this type of situation.

I could still be wrong. But, copy pasted from the Sponsorship guide on the Canadian Immigration website.

Application to Sponsor and Undertaking (IMM 1344A)

A - Sponsor

1. Indicate whether you want to withdraw your sponsorship application or continue processing if you do not meet the sponsorship requirements. If your choice is to withdraw your sponsorship, the application for permanent residence of the person you want to sponsor will not be processed and you will have no right of appeal. All fees you will have paid, except the sponsorship fee of $75, will be repaid to you.

If you choose to continue processing or fail to notify CPC-M of your intent to withdraw, the application for permanent residence of the person you want to sponsor will be forwarded to a visa office, where it will be refused. You will have the right to appeal the decision. You will not be entitled to a refund of the processing fees.

Indicate also your preferred language for correspondence and complete the rest of the question
.

This is only the right to appeal if you are not found eligible as a Sponsor, which is only the 1st stage of the sponsorship process, which also seems to be the easiest part to pass. I think you should probably have a good feel going into things whether or not you will be found eligible or not.

I paid the $50; not sure what it's for but there was a note with our sponsorship approval letter that I had overpaid $50 and they would be returning it. Damn, thought they might keep it as a bribe :D :D

Rubs chin and thinks about sending them chocolate instead.... ;)
