i just had my medical examination last june 23 and unfortunately the results are given one at a time each week!! worst they just gave me a referral letter to see a specialist..they even requested for a sputum exam which will take 8 weeks for the result. my lmo is about to expire on aug 1..i don't even know if they are aware of that. and it is barely 3 weeks from today before the lmo will expire! they told me to email or fax embassy to inform that i am on "further med testing".. would that help? is there such thing as an extension of lmo? do i really need to inform the embassy? please help. this is my first time to apply for a work visa.thanks in advance. would appreciate your response. :(

It's okay. CIC already has your application that is why you've been asked to do the medicals, right?

thanks so much job_seeker.. yep i got my medical instruction letter last june 18 and had my med exam last june 23.. im just bothered coz the doctor referred me to see a pulmonary specialist next week and to undergo a sputum test that would take 2 months for the result! in that case since my LMO will expire on august 1 my concern is if i would still be able to get the work visa before the expiration of the LMO. (just in case) coz if i really need to wait for the result of the sputum test then i think it is too late since the LMO has expired by then. another thing is, do i really need to inform the canadian embassy here in manila that i am for further medical testing? what would be the impact if ever? my employer called yesterday and she is really in need of workers there especially this july and told me that i need to be there before aug 1 if ever i'll be approved.. what suggestion can you advice? please advice..badly needed..

You need medical clearance. The best thing is see the specialist at once. LMO validity is 6 months sometimes less and the person named in the LMO must send the application on or before the expiry of the LMO; in your case you have already sent the application. The doctor probably suspect TB that is why you're being asked to do the sputum test. You can submit a letter from your DMP to the Canadian Embassy in Manila to let them know that you are undergoing medical check up. CIC has its own protocols and one can not rush them into making decisions, lest a negative decision be given.

For all intents and purposes, your WP application may take 12 months or more and as long as your employer is willing to wait, you don't need a new LMO. Get a letter from your DMP and tell him you need that to show CIC that you have submitted yourself for medical check up but need further testing. attach a copy of the receipt you paid the DMP clinic.

As job_seeker has told you, it does NOT matter that the LMO will expire August 1st. You have already applied for the work permit BEFORE August 1st so the expiry date of the LMO no longer matters. You had to apply for the WP BEFORE August 1. You did that. You are fine.

Hi,

Sorry, not familiar with the process/procedure from the Philippines. I should think it would be passport request for the visa stamping. Then you'll have to comply with the POEA requirements.

Your contract validity should be current. LMOs are now 6 months duration. Applications sometimes take more than 6 months to process, especially in the Philippines where in the effort of the government to earn more from the Filipinos who are going to work abroad, impose so many red tapes purportedly to help the OFW (pardon me, just so disillusioned by their so many and long processes but everything gets paid for and makes the processing longer). Get your employer's contact info and let your employer know when you're arriving so expect a call from a port of entry officer.

copy that. Even i get dissapointed of the unnecessary delayings done by some people here... actually im in constant communication with my employer and she's the one who is paying for the fare so i'll just inform her to atleast be ready if ever there may be some clarifications from the port of entry. as per my contract it states there (june 2011-june 2012).
