Hello,

I need you dire help. I am sponsoring my husband and he got a call from immigration asking for Police Check from France and India. His previous place of residence, how can I get a police from those countries? Any idea? My husband was a permanent resident from France but not a citizen. From India he was just a refugee/stateless.

Also, they want a fingerprint from Toronto, Canada. Where should we go for that?

Please help us.

Immigration officer said, why did not we send all these info before, but did not get a letter asking for these. We got the AIP, which, stated they are doing background check, I guess that's what they meant. Had no idea. oops!

Thank you for your help. :) :) :)

Re: HELP! Got a call from immigration asking for police from France and India, HOW?

The police check requirement is in the guide, the checklist and the forms pretty clearly. You were supposed to send these with the application (for the old application). I suggest googling how to get them. I don't know how it works for India if he was not a citizen.

Thank you. Our lawyer did not warn us.

You should find the specific information for each country according to your status in that country.

For your Toronto fingerprint, check Canada on the same website.

Getting a police certificate from France is easy. You just need to fill out an online form and they will send it to your address in about a months' time. It is free.

As for police certificate from India, contact the Indian embassy of the country you are residing in. If residing in India, you can apply at the police commissioners office/local District Police Station or passport office, depending on where you are located.

Except I think her husband was Indian citizen and filed a refugee claim with France thereby rendering him ineligible for consular services at Indian missions abroad. I am not sure if PCC is a part of that service.

Wait, what?

Why didn't your representative (that you pay money to):
a) notify you
b) secure the appropriate PCC's
c) direct you accordingly

???

Just guessing. If the lawyer is formal appointed representative, the OP will not get the call directly from CIC. So it is likely the lawyer was consulted, but not appointed as the representative.

No matter the situation, as the OP needs to get the PCC done. Other posters have given them a lead on how to do that.

If there is representation on file, they should be getting the PCC's for the OP. That was the point. That's the very first call made -- to ask why this wasn't done. It may be an issue the lawyer would fix.

He was never asked by the lawyer to begin. I wish she could have at least warn us. So we can get them together. The immigration officer was really mad at us but kind mad not mad mad. She is waiting for pcc to make her dm.

In that case, your husband can approach an Indian mission/consulate and they should be able to help him out. I cannot figure out the current residence of your husband - approaches will change based on it.

As for fingerprinting, do you require a RCMP certified criminal record check? If yes, again it depends on the residence of your husband.
