Hello, I hope some can help me with this
I am a Canadian citizen and last week I have sent off my sponsorship application for my fiancés - permanent residence from within Canada (spouse or common-law partner in Canada class). He is American.
Yesterday, my fiancé received a phone call from a police officer over an incident that happened while he was playing basketball a month ago. He had got in an altercation with another basketball player and slapt him while playing basketball at a local rec center. He had no idea the incident was forwarded to police. We both know that his actions were very stupid and he truly regrets it. The rec center however has the incident on camera and contacted police. The man he got in to the altercation with is not pressing charges, however, I believe the rec center is.
The police officer has asked him to come in next Friday where he will get finger printed and given a court date. Before we go to the police station, my fiancé and I were going to go the rec center and beg them to not press charges. We plan on telling them that he will volunteer and write apology letter ect for his actions. I am also 8 months pregnant and am extremely stressed about all of this and so afraid our application will be denied.
My question is, what do I do now to inform immigration what has happened. Depending on the out come of our meeting with the rec center, will we have to include all the details etc. What does someone do in this situation?
Note: He has also gone to court last year over another fight during a basketball game where he was found innocent. I have included all this information and evidence he was found innocent in our application. Will they think he is a loose cannon and therefore not accept his application?
