Letter in the mail today from Canadian Embassy Immigration Habana dated September 24. In it they mentioned validity of permanent resident visa will depend on the validity of the medical examination or your passport, whichever expires first. I believe his medical was done mid to late November (of course that is one thing I didn't photocopy). Should he go for another medical before interview? I read somewhere that they have allowed when it's passed the date. Validation of the police check took 5 months so we were so far behind in submitting paperwork. I can't remember how long the original medical took. It also states it is our responsibility to request a new medical examination before the visa is issued.

sorry ladies; I'm totally stressing. Just checked CIC website and there is a new bulletin 423 - effective June 1, 2012, the officer can ask for a "medical assessment" which is a review of the current medical. A new medical can be reissued valid for 12 months.

I think I'm driving my hubby crazy with all this stuff......

Medical is for a year and it is also the date of the visa expiration. Therefore if your medical was done lets say mid november he has to mid november to receive the visa and get out of cuba which to me is not possible as PVE can take up to 30 days and the PRE a couple of months. Therefore they will advise him to redo the medical the day of the interview if they do not then the reponsiblity part they mention is that your hubby should mention to them that he wants to redo the medical as it does not leave much time for you and him to preapre for the last steps of his departure. What the second medical does is that it refreshes the date. So he if redoes it lets says 27/10/2012 then he will have a visa until 27/10/2013 therefore giving him time to proceed with the final steps to his departure. If the visa expires and he is still in Cuba then the whole thing is to be re done and I mean everything. They would not let this happen. A friend of mine. her hubby had 2 months left for his medical when he did his interview and they asked him to redo it. It is the best way to go. Hope this helps!

Thanks ppsandy79. How long ago was your friend's interview. How long after was he able to get to Canada?
The new bulletin on CIC says the officer can send off to have the medical reassessed or request a new medical. This was effective June 1, 2012.
I guess I should wait till his interview. All the officer said to him bring proof that your wife has been back since application submitted and passport. When they originally called Sept 24; hubby told the officer I was there and she said she would call back with an interview date.

Luvcuba...deep breaths sista! Gawd I can only imagine the stress you are feeling. There are so many things to take care just to submit the app...then with the stress of medicals expiring..and visa expiring when the passport or medical expires..whichever comes first. Whos passport are they looking for? Yours or your husbands? And is it possible to have you husband call now to the hospital in Havana and book an appointment? Just in case? I know when my husband went to do his in May..they had a cancellation the following week so they took him in...otherwise he was going to have to wait until November!! Did everyone else have this experience? I mean a long wait time?

Sassylassie; Thanks. The embassy told my hubby to bring his passport. I'm trying to understand this Bulletin 423; maybe I'll email my MP/MPP whichever one it is....can't think.

Am I able to e-mail them further information as I'm unable to get to my husband before interview? If not play dumb didn't know???

Thanks Ladies
I answered this earlier and I don't see the post :(

I would email the embassy....put on the reline your husbands full name and application # and Interview October 25, 2012

then ask if they would prefer fax or email as you have further evidence to submit but you won't be coming to cuba to deliver it on the day of the interview....if they see on the re line that your file is in progress you will get an answer very fast!!!

once the visa is issued the date won't be changed....the extension is to do with files still in progress and can take several months to approve......I would seriously consider just getting another medical right away and taking it with you to the interview that way the visa will have the new expiration date

Luvcuba. My friend had her interview in September of this year. He is still not here. With the new medical and him applying for the PRE it will take a couple of months till. You have to wait until they request the new medical on the interview day. You cannot go and get one done just like that. They give you a special form to take with him to this second medical. Trust me. They even ask if you want pay I think it is 50 cuc to speed up the results but even paying that fee which my friend did it still took 48 business days. The results go to Spain I believe for analyzing. It is not done in Havana.

ohh another thing if the medical is about to expire the visa will not be issued on that interview date. Once the new medical is ok then havana will again call your husband to come get his visa. Then this visa will have the new expiration date.

ok now I'm beyond stressed. I will give hubby embassy number to call. I will also send an email.

Has anyone read Bulletin 423??? It says it's up to the officer discretion to send for a reassessment..

I've gotten conflicting advice; go get another medical asap or you can't get till interview.

The letter states its up to us to request a new medical. So maybe I'll have him call where he gets the medical to ask them.

I read the assessment it says if your medical exam is less than 15 months then you need to email to get is assessed and have it extended for another 12 months. It gives email address but which would it be ottawa for us?

If the medical is more than 15 months then a new medical will need to be redone. OMG i am so confused my hubby has a medical expiration of december 18 2012 and we still have no interview date. does this mean I should email now and get it extended right away? huh help? Luvcuba me too now so confused
