Appendix A
Document Checklist - Immigrant
Assemble all your documents as listed. Check () each applicable item on the list and attach the list to your documents (a paper clip will do). Do not send originals, unless you are applying in Cuba (see note below). Send photocopies of all documents except the forms listed below (items 1 to 6) and police certificates, which must be originals. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals.
Note: If you are a Cuban national, you must send originals of all documents, unless otherwise instructed. These will be returned to you after a decision has been made on your application. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals.

The passport was not between items 1 - 6. It was number 9 on the list. It's definitely confusing though. I can see where you might've thought it was the original.

Dont forget that in Cuba the holidays arent a big deal like here in Canada so it shouldnt effect things I dont think. Crossing my fingers for you! Holding space for each and everyone of you through this nerve wrecking time :)
Yes, I thought about that, but it's canadian office, so they do shut down. I checked the website. They close for 2 days. And they are canadian government workers, likely get extra time off at the holiday to see their families. My friend that works in the gov (HR) says they encourage people to take extra time then, paid or otherwise. Trying to get anything with the government over the holidays can be a challenge. BUT, hopefully it will be a non-issue cuz we will all pre approved before then!!

You are right it asks for the 'original' but then I didn't send it, i asked a friend who does immigration consulting and he said to photocopy- i just put copies... i figured what if it gets lost? then what... the application is a bit misleading in that respect... i was confused for days...

Agreed! So confusing... I may have read it wrong (along with about 4 other people I asked to read it) but none of the cuban's documents (birth cert, marriage cert, etc) are in english or french, so you need to send a notorized, certified translation, with a copy (like photocopy?) of the originals. The only original I sent was the police certificate (with the notorized, certified translation.). They still have not asked for the original certificates, so I don't know if what I did was right or not. What did the rest of you guys do? did you send your original birth certificates and marriage certificate?

Speaking of originals, can anyone tell me why we needed to spend so much money to the cuban embassy to certified and translate our canadian birth certificate, divorce certificates, for them to keep the original in Cuba? WTF?? Seriously? Why do they need my original certificate? I ordered a copy when I got back, but I no longer have my original. I don't get it. did this happen to everyone or just me?
