A ATIO translator named Victor did mine. He also notarized them for me. He does everything by email and mails you hard copies as well so you don't even have to go to him. He is in Oakville, and his fees were not dirt cheap but they were okay. Victors email is go @ solospanish.com. I also use another ATIO translator in Etobicoke her name is Florinda Lages you can look her up on ATIO website, but you have to notarize it yourself.

And yah for marriage I notarized everything, Spanish and English, it's mandatory. But for CIC spousal sponsorship we certified the antecedentes and the marriage certificate in Havana, but nothing else. No Canadian notaries on anything. And also the VO in Havana told us we didn't even need to certify the marriage certificate or the criminal record clearance but whatever better safe than sorry.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! I'm planning my wedding next year and therefore getting all my documents in order. For the single status affidavit, I found some templates online. Is that okay? I know Public Notary charge extra for preparing documents or is there a preferred template?

Thanks!

Which docs are you translating? Is this for immigration or marriage?

Hi,

I'm translating the single status affidavit and my birth certificate. Is there a preferred template for the single status doc? I found some online? Also, what would you recommend faxing your documents ahead of time to be on the safe side? I just don't want any issues to arise after I go down.

Thank you!

I had my marriage documents done by an immigration office so they ensured everything was laid out a certain way. You can try faxing it but Cuba has a way of "misplacing stuff" or not receiving it until you are actually there handing it them so it might not make any difference if you try to be proactive. Also, be prepared that the marriage costs another $600 + $125 in certification stickers in Cuba over and above what you pay at the Cuban embassy here for the marriage.

NOT SURE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF THIS, BUT IF YOU STILL NEED A TEMPLATE I HAVE A COPY OF THE EXACT TEMPLATE I USED.

MAKE SURE YOUR ENGLISH SPEAKING LAWYER SIGNS AND SEALS IT FIRST AND HAVE YOUR TRANSLATOR "TRANSLATE IT" AND HE SHOULD HAVE A LAWYER THAT CAN SIGN AND SEAL THE NEW TRANSLATED DOCUMENT.

SEND ME YOUR EMAIL IN A PM AND I CAN HELP YOU WITH WHATEVER IT IS YOU NEED!

From what I know... if the agent working on your file doesn't send the whole thing back they will hold it until u submit what is required with the time limit they gave you to remit. You won't have to wait all over again unless they send you your WHOLE package back to start all over.

That's what I think - but ur best bet is to call the fix. Such nice people and helpfu . ;)

Hi

My husband just called from Holguin and tells me that his new police clearance will not be ready until Feb 2015 and costs another 65CUC Do you have any idea how to get it quicker as the old one has run out and this will hold our application up again It has already been too long.

Hi,

Usually it only takes 21 days. Is there another office he can try to get the certificate at? I know it might mean some travel but he should be able to get it faster than that. Those in Cuba like "gifts" as well to speed things up....

Tell him to go to havana and he will get it faster there,,just tell him to bring a ''gift'' for the officer who assists him and he will get it probably same day...

Does anyone know what's going on with the Havana VO office requesting new police certificates? According to immigration, the only date factor is that "The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply." Is this why people have gotten the request for a new one?

On the certificate, it says that is it valid for 6 months, so are they requesting new ones because it has taken them more than 6 months to open the application?

Or is this just a money grab, seeing as Cuban's now have to PAY for a new police cert? (BTW, no other country is requesting new certs, unless they are obtained more than 3 months before the application was received by CIC (as far as I have been able to tell)

Hi Mrs.Hubby!! Hope all is well... i am curious.... is the VO asking you directly for updated police certificate? or are you speaking for others that they have requested for? i am only asking because my file was transfered to Havana a month prior and i am curious to know what the status of their processing is like... hahaha im trying to do investigations as i am NOT patiently waiting...

No, we have not heard ANYTHING from the VO. I've just noticed a lot of other people from the Havana VO being asked for new police certificates, and I was wondering why they would need a new one (it would give me a sense of whether they will ask us for a new one). If they were issued more than 3 months before the application was received, I would understand that request and feel better. I was hoping to get some answers from those that were asked, but no one has replied yet.

I hear ya on the "not patiently waiting"! I'm trying my best, but there are moments where I just need to try and do something, anything, to feel like I have "some" level on control in this situation. Trying to plan your future, when you don't know when it will happen is an incredibly stressful feeling...not to mention, gives this particular control nut, way to much time to worry about sh!t at times. *OK, Deep breath... it will all happen in due time :)*

We are now into November, so with every passing month, it is one more month closer to the big move, and us being together FULLTIME!
