Avana.....just double check about the cancellation insurancel....alot of times he needs to be supported with a doctor's note....not just for the sake of cancelling..........and there is a very good chance you may need to attend on the Thursday to pick up the visa....what time is your interview for?????
Ya i know about that, but theres a more expensive insurance that allows you to cancel for any reason at all! Its written in bold on the website (this is air transat anyways)

Im hoping we will get lucky and get the visa the same day seeing as were from holguin... I do have a friend that got her visa on a monday after her interview. Our interview is also at 9am... if we have to we`ll stay... but obviously hoping to spend christmas as a family....

Not being negative nelly, and hoping for the best.
Just be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.
Our friends were from villa Clara and they made them wait, they picked up their visa on Thursday with my hubby.
Here's hoping Santa will be handing out visas that day!!!
Cubana only charges $75 to change flight dates and you can change as many times as you want to.

Avana...so I do not have to do the math...can you give me dates to put in for "file received in Havana" on the spreadsheet. I know you have not gotten an official AOR from Havana yet....

Anyone else have dates to give me that I missed?

I have to tell you ladies despite the fact that I did not get an approval today....I am still really happy. I discovered keku.com for super cheap calls to Cuba AND I switched my internet to Bell who gave me a REALLY good deal...no contract, no modem rental, 220Gb more a month in data faster upload/dowloand speeds all for cheaper than Rogers. Have I ever mentioned my serious dislike for Rogers?!? Just saying! Life is grand bruhahahaha

yay Double Rainbow!!! youre up next!!!

Heres a question for you ladies... I was all about the PRE this whole time, but given my circumstances, what if we went the PVE route instead. It is significantly faster right? Like one week? If we go the PRE route, we may end up waiting past the 13th anyways, which will lead us to having to do the same things here as the PVE would.. going to the embassy here, blah blah blah.. I know some people have a hard time getting the PRE once they arrive here... but most ppl get it within good time? Other than paying a monthly fee here what are the downfalls to the PVE? I tried to look or it on the forum but when I search it says nothing is found Hubby doesnt own property since he built his apartment on top of his moms house.... this is giving me a sliver of hope!

what do you ladies think?

Hey Avana......probably with the changes upcoming and not knowing really what is going to happen....personally I would just get him out of Cuba the fastest way possible and if that is via the PVE then do it and apply here once he lands......just apply before the January 14th deadline date because who the heck knows what will happen if he exited on only a PVE......my husbanbs PRE is pasted in his passport just like the visa so not sure what the PVE looks like!!!

Hmmmm sounds like a better plan maybe!! with that we may be able to get out faster and together which would be great! Plus we would have no problem going to the consulate here before the jan 13th deadline! What happens with the PRE after, they send it in the mail? We are planning on going back to cuba 6 months later, we can hope not to have any problems getting it in that amount of time I would hope? This is getting me excited again!! :D Also, KJG, do you have any idea whether or not I should book the plane ticket for him before getting the visa with the hopes he could make it? Like I said the travel agent said we couldnt do it, but I could have innocently gone online and booked it myself just like that (and the flight is still available!). Im just really worried about getting ANY last minute flights out of there (after getting the visa) at this time of year and would feel so much better about having an option out!

Also, Did you get my PM reply? :D

Hi ladies.
Just wanted to update you about the PRE.
Hubby went for an interview at immigration for his PRE. He had to do this because he worked for the military twice. He had to declare that his didn't have any firearms nor access to the state secrets lol

She asked him how fast he wanted to get to Canada and he said ASAP, so she told him to do the PVE.
She said that they are eliminating the PVE and PRE and that he will not have to go to immigration here go get his PRE or pay monthly etc.
however they also told him that the price is the same. $550 cuc.
I of course lost my mind, because in the past people have come on the PVE for $150.
So he went back to the office, and they explained that since he is going to Canada with permanent resident visa that it is in fact $550. $150 for the carta Blanca and $400 for the medical check. This of course being the charge of covering the "free" medical check that he did to submit his paperwork to Canada immigration.
I know a few married Cubans that came in the PVE and only paid $150. But it now looks like they are charging them the extra $400. He's been back to the office 3 times and they keep explaining the same.
I'm just nervous that is he comes with the PVE and they don't change the PRE law that we will be screwed.
I don't know what else to do.....
They told him that he doesn't have to pay anything here at the consulate etc.
I'm just nervous now that when we want to go back to Cuba that we will get screwed paying for something else
They assured him that no, they will not be charging for anything else after the 14th of January.
The PVE is fine for everyone.
I was prepared to pay $500 for the PRE. But now the PVE is costing the same, but I don't know what else to do, he thought he was doing a good thing by getting the faster visa, but now I just feel screwed!!!

ok let me see if i understand this....so they are getting rid of the PVE and PRE but to leave to canada as he is leaving with a PR status he still has to pay the $550??? so they are just getting rid of the PVE and PRE process but still making the money i see

Hey Shuster!

What a big load of mess! If the PVE will allow him to get here when you wanted him to come though, perhaps thats best? Especially if they wont be charging the monthly fee here AND you wouldnt have to apply for the PRE. Will that give him problems to go back to Cuba though? Sounds like they are finding a way to keep the money they would have made (the 550) while finding a way to get him his exit papers sooner... Doesnt surprise me that they dont want to give up the money! Does he still have the choice to do one or the other? How soon could he get the PVE? And PRE? Dont give up or get frustrated now! You're so close to the end!! Within weeks you and hubby will be together and all this will be behind you :) I know how frustrating it could be dealing with all of this, and it seems until that landing date it only gets more stressful!

Keep your head up! It will all work out in the end! Like I said, ALMOST done!! xox

I think Shuster said previously that people leaving for permanent residence elsewhere will still have to do the PRE, but the PVE will be eliminated as of the 13th. My guess is that they will then still charge the same 550. I think the point is that they dont need this to travel (to the few countries they are able to travel to anyways), but if they are leaving permanently the process stays the same. Could be wrong, but i remember reading that.

What about ownership of property rights and future purchasing of a house or build one? The ease of Cubans going in and out of Cuba in the future without hassles? The PRE protects the Cubans with all of this presently. :( ??? I just found out that...... the Cuban needs to have 2 ID cards. One for them to use for the future and the other goes with the PRE APP not sure about the PVE App? They also will only give one extra ID card and not again after this? This way the Cuban can return to Cuba to visit for vaca /family and still be able to have this card to use when needed while in Cuba, like for transit, medical, dental and whatever else they use it for at present. Maybe that will change with the PRE going? Has anybody else heard of this? ???
