has anyone ever apply for a visitor visa while sponsorship papers are in process.....did you get through?
I had a visit visa before applying for my PR. I used to visit my wife on Visit visa while our application was in process too, Had no issues.
Now i am not sure if this is the same as applying for a visit visa after applying for PR. I don't see it being a big deal but you might wanna make sure.

cheers

(i) Even though I am from a visa exempt country, I know that it is the border controls perogative to refuse me entry on the grounds that I could/ might outstay my TRV if my COPR has not been finalised or any problems arise and with cutting my ties I guess that would certainly be a valid concern of a border official.
If refused, you can also ask them to issue a TRP under "early admission" (See OP 20 "Temporary Resident Permits") as it is exactly for the case where the PR is in process. Assuming there are NO indications that you shouldn't be allowed in, the manual says it is appropriate to grant a TRP. I wouldn't ask for a TRP up front, and the chance of success is at best mixed, but it is at least another option to explore. The downside is that TRPs take a long time to process.

Buy a travel insurance policy. Also, the rules about eligibility depend upon the province. Here in BC they are quite generous and make spouses in the PR process eligible for MSP even while the process is ongoing.

Good luck!

Thanks Computergeek,

As I said hopefully I will receive COPR before I go down that route but since London VO has hit a brick wall (seems to have become the slowest of all the VO's this summer) but will take all of your advice on board when making a decision on whether to come before COPR is issued. I guess I have to make a choice mid October if COPR has not been granted or ECAS is not "in process".

Thanks again, :D

Although Canada is visa exempt for some countries, it is still the perogative of a BC official to pass judgement on whether to allow you access to Canada. Having ties back home, a job, a mortgage, a car and a return flight are perfect examples of things that show you have intent to return back "home". If you are upping sticks and leaving and going to sit out the process in Canada and can't demonstrate any ties back home, then obviously that has to be a concern of a BC official. So yes access to Canada is relatively straight forward if you are from a visa exempt country, have no criminal records and are only there for a temporary stay but if your case has more complicated circumstances a guaranteed entry is certainly not a given.

my wife is white canadian born citizen.. we met here in the phil during one of her tourist travel last 2010 and we get maried last may this year..
we are so excited to live together in Canada as it is for the best interest for both of us at this moment...
if you are white canadian born citizen as well, then i guess we have a similar case here...
anyway, my wife is coming back here this december and i'm very happy... hoping as well that next year we will be together in Canada...
Hey that's cool! You guys are just like us. We know a few couples like us from where we worked before. But it's so rare to see a white Canadian born lady with a Filipino man.. in the wild. I'm sure as you know, we get a lot of comments from when we travel around together in the Phils.. such an unusual combination. And they often assume he's American so can't understand their Bisayan or Ilokano. hehee, we feel like movie stars sometimes ;D
