I need to get a certified copy of my national passport to proof identity (no PR card, RTD is expired) however the CIC office is closed to public unless I've an appointment & I cannot find a way to schedule that online.

IRCC contact number is busy every time I call so I am not sure if I can schedule the appointment through them.

Did anyone try going to CIC office or was able to schedule appointment over the phone (or any other method) to get a certified copy of the national passport?

When I made my claim and they seized my passport, they made a photocopy of it that they gave to me attached to a form called "Notice of Seizure of Travel and/or Identity Documents". Maybe you could ask CBSA to reissue that to you?

Yes, I did try to ask for a copy. I've been told that the copy they gave me when they seized it is good enough, it's a certified copy, so I can use it for identification. They didn't give me a new one. Actually I'm pretty sure they lost my passport.

I don't think so. I used that same photocopied page with a certified true copy stamp to apply for pr and other stuff. If you have been granted Pr or you made your claim in canada. contact the office where u made your claim. I don't think ircc has your passport, it where u made your claim that does.

I have a certified copy but I was requested to get a new one because the one I have is more than 3 years old. I cannot find a way to request an updated copy online so I guess I'll try my luck and go the office next week

well I contacted the city officials and they told me I should request a new one so I guess I'll try to get a new one >_<

So I contacted IRCC and the only option I have is to request my national passport back. Here's the email :

Good day,

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. As discussed, you will find below complementary information to our conversation:

Return of your identity documents

If your identity documents were not returned to you when you became a permanent resident and you wish to have them back, please send a written request to the office and include:

  • The list of the requested original identity documents, and
  • The reason of your request, including an explanation that you became a permanent resident without your documents.
The list of offices is available on our website.

I don't think I will do that at the moment, but thought I should leave their response here as a future reference.

Notice Of Seizure means, you won't get your passport back, now you need to apply for Refugees Travel Document, which you will use as a passport, if you keep asking for your original passport from IRCC then it means you are not worried about your home country situation, just let it go because you are protected now, thanks :)
