Ive been trolling this forum for weeks now and it seems every time someone actually asks why someone was refused as a sponsor there is no answer. So im going to ask again, has anyone actually submitted a spousal sponsorship application and found uneligible to sponsor??? Or has anyone heard of this happening to anyone?

The few cases that I have seen it happened are usually linked to the relationship rather than to the sponsor strictly speaking.
CIC looks briefly at the application at the first stage, and so some people get denied at that point.
Cases include: PRs that didn't declare their relationship before landing ( they were common-law but landed as single, sometimes because they didn't know that living with somebody for 12 months qualifies as CL), or not qualifying as common law (the 2 persons have not lived exactly 12 months together).
I have not seen a sponsor being denied because of insufficient funds, as CIC will always ask for more proof if they have doubts.

So in general: first stage is rather easy and straightforward. Also because the criteria for assessment are straightforward, compared to the second stage.

Thank you for your fast response, I guess im more worried about prior welfare use on my part although i will not be on when we submit the application.

As Sweden said, we've certainly seen sponsor refusals here. However it's typically for a good reason. In addition to the reasons that Sweden mentioned, I have also seen refusals due to criminality, the sponsor not living in Canada (for a PR to sponsor, they must be living in Canada), insufficient funds due to being on disability (usually people are still approved but once in a while they aren't), sponsoring while still owing a social assistance repayment for someone else who they previously sponsored.

Im sure im fine and just stressing over it lol I put on the application unemployed as i am due with our first child next week, but included a letter stating when ill be returning to work, i couldnt get a work letter to confirm this though, im also getting my step dad to write a letter stating her helps financially. My only worry is I was using assistance (welfare) from jan until now

I would make sure you're off welfare for about a month before you submit the application (and obviously stay off welfare while the application is being processed). If you do that - you should be absolutely fine.

I can definatly do that, i was just waiting on the baby to be born, once child tax kicks in i can survive until i return to work. Thanks for the advice :)

Yeah, make sure you are off welfare.

I got my GCMS case notes and in them I noticed because I have a low income they did a welfare check on me in Alberta and in BC, to make sure i wasnt on it, both the places I lived over 18. :)

When did you apply for your application and have you recieved your AOR ?

It wont take that long for cic to process the approval...max 4 weeks after the AOR....

As Sweden mentioned if welfare is the only reason you are stressing out and rest of your application is in order...then i can say you should be fine....you should get ur approval soon..
